Does it seem that KZLA has dug a little deeper into '90s country since All-Xmas ended? I've heard Mary-Chapin Carpenter and Clint Black this weekend. It was good to hear them--nice break from the current crop of kiddies.

Oh, so YOU'RE their listener?

Seriously -- did catch some of the deeper cuts they put in. They're now starting to take after a lot of other country stations that are including 90s in their rotations. Helps broaden the audience, and KZLA could use all the help in the world.

Yes I agree - Brian sounds good on country. I drove through LA a while back and heard him on KZLA and it sounded pretty interesting.

We've used Brian at WSIX Nashville for about 8 months...
sounds great, and turns stuff around very quickly.
______________

It must be hard to sell a Red format in a Blue city.
That's an uphill battle all the way.

don't believe the sterotypes of the typical country listener:
the vast majority have all their teeth, and are not married to direct
relatives.
______________

They've also scrambled their nighttime lineup. Whitney Allen's Hot List is now on at 7 followed by Shawn Parr hosting the 8 o'clock block and Peter Tilden hosting Hollyville. Brian Douglas is now on from 10 to midnight.

Guess we know what the programming department was up to over the holidays...

The red state/blue state cultural divide is a factor in where country does well or not. But even more important is how ethnic a market is. For example, Portland Oregon is a very liberal area, yet country is HUGE there, the fact that it's one of the least ethnic large markets is one of the reasons.

Nick, tell me, honestly: What do you actually understand about the radio business?

And what the hell is a "Red format"? No one I know in the business defines format appeal by the red/blue method.
______________

Besides I don't think it's that hard or uphill to sell KZLA. From what I understand, they bill well. They might not have the largest share, but their mostly suburban 25-54 audience is attractive to advertisers. I see a lot of production orders here in Vegas, when LA stations are on the PO, I VERY often see KZLA as one of the station listed. It's obvious a lot of agencies like doing business with them.

Huh?

No, it is not. The station is format exclusive. They bill over $30 million. They have limited promotion expense, and the bragging rights to being the most listened to country station in America.

It´s an easy station to sell.
