Let's flip those percentages and draw a comparison from another market to illustrate this kind of thing in reverse. I present a quote from a press release that appeared on the San Francisco board:
"The new 95.7 The Wolf went on the air on March 1, featuring country hit-makers such as Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and Toby Keith, as well as cross-over artists Michelle Branch, Sheryl Crow, Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp and more."
Now let's see...that's maybe 60% country and 40% rock (or partly rock, anyway). Does this sound about right? I guess not. The percentages may be off, but so is the mix. Michelle Branch? Solo or Santana? Is this a San Francisco thing or is it what our own Wolf is going to be when Sebastian finishes the mutation destruction, I mean, tweaking of the format?
I could have posted this in the recent thread called "What Happened to Country Radio?" but it seemed to fit better in this, the "What The Hell is Happening With KZPS?" thread. Just what Dallas-Fort Worth needs, isn't it? Not one, but two full-time, full-power train wreck stations. Pardon me if I'm not excited about the prospect of that.

now with your details jeff, its even more convincing that.....
Long term this sounds more boring than that tree which no one heard falling in the woods. Its bad enough programmers feel the need to fragment formats into narrow slivers of over played, over tested songs. Now this sounds more niche and less of a choice for DFW. Old man presentation matched with songs that are already on my ipod...whats going to make anyone tune in? a sleepy Merle Haggard or Hank Jr. update from Redbeard? His dry uninspired presentation wasnt enough to keep him on Q102 10 years ago. The novelty of hearing him wont be enough for more than a few trends, if that.
Prediction: 3-6 months and ZPS will drift back to "more of the same" with an older and thinner fragmentation of a format that attracts an audience even closer to death than ZPS already had. Good luck on those 25 to 54's. Cant see many people under 54 being enthusiastic about this. Sounds like there wont be anyone left there under 55. Is that the median age of DFW now? Never thought we'd see the day that the Bone sounded good....wait , sorry, that day hasnt happened yet either.
melonhead said:Yes laffer, you're right. The big winners here will be KSCS AND KLUV. AND even JACK with the amount of classic rock they have been playing lately. They must be celebrating already. Does anyone think the WOLF will give up the rock or will the Bone pick up enough to prevent a format change?
