Here's the skinny - The flip happens at midnight tonight. "Lone Star 92.5" is a hybrid classic rock/copuntry format. According to the Star-Telegram a smapling of the playlist is:
ZZ Top
Hank Williams, Jr
Willie Nelson (also the voice of the station)
Jimmy Buffet
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Drive By Truckers
Old 97s
Station will be jock free for the first week then in a Q102-esque fashion... mornings with Bo & Jim, Afternoons with Redbeard and nights will Jon Dillon. Gone are Jack "Locker Room Lindstrom and Cindy Scull.
in new orleans we had a station that flipped from modern rock to this format. it tanked!! as will this attempt. you cant mix shanai twain with ac/dc..
Who knows? Maybe the Metroplex is ready for something like this. The same kind of hybrid Classic Rock/Country format was tried in the Boston area (back in 1976) on WTTK/100.7 ("TK/101"). It was a unique presentation (albeit automated), and while being "pretty good", really didn't garner much in the rating books. Eventually, it went to a more AOR slant after a couple of "so-so" books. But, then again this is 2007 and we're talking Dallas/Fort Worth. My brother who lives in the Fort Worth area might like this. I used to listen to KZPS back in the late 1990's while it was using some ISDN feed to the Internet. I enjoyed it immensely (until the ISDN feed was discontinued). Fortunately, the Internet had matured and the audio has improved better than the ISDN feed KZPS was using back in '97. Good luck with KZPS with the new "Lone Star 92.5". BTW: Is that Willie Nelson on the bumpers?
Greetings from Boston!
