KZPT mornings

Once again the Point changes something. The Big Z and Meredith Show didn't last long. Meredith is out and filling in middays until Sheila gets back from maternity leave. KZPT APD Leslie Lois is now in. Is this going to last? Big Z and Leslie?

I told you to get ready for some BIG changes at KZPT.
This is ONLY the beginning of things to come...

The Tucson market is in for a surprise & shocker!

That Horizontal Tease can only last so long, if they are going to Hurban it or Foldie it, moving a few people around isn't going to "start it"

What could surprise or shock us so much? I don't think hurban would be such a surprise or shock. Maybe they'll switch to a format like WDVW fm in New Orleans. Who knows? I'm sure Leslie is not going to stay in the morning co-host position. Journal's website says they are looking for a co-host in the morning.
Edited by liam808 on 06/03/05 02:42 PM.

BRING BACK BARRY AND ANDY! look how well bringing back a veteran team worked for khyt. (i'd like to think my constant rants on this board had something to do with the return of mike and tyler.) you know... bring back THE HOG! those were the days.

Hahaha, thanks for the smile - Wasn't that the station the Hog was on? If that was the case we should scream bring back Mark and Brian! I still think this town could use an Active Rocker but can it sell?

I like to think it would sell - Mark and Brian rocked. Put them on an active rocker and radio would be listenable again around here. Oh how I miss waking up to Pratt in the mornings in the 80's....

I hope not. It was like a "Johnjay and Rich Wannabe" approach

Re: KZPT mornings/Wake up and smell the coffee

Remember all the failed morning shows on KZPT in the last 5 years. Even when they hired a good or decent show, it was never supported. In a year or so, they canned each show. You have to understand their mentality. Journal is a NEWSPAPER company that owns some radio stations. When they can't resolve radio revenue and performance problems in the same fashion as they do in the newspaper business (add a few pages of advertising to each paper), they react by changing people, cutting budgets and starting over again. They're on their 3rd GM since Wexler left, and he's STILL in charge of the market. One of them only lasted a month! This from a company that pitches recruits on long term "career" employment.

Strong rumors are often premature facts. In Tucson, there is a groundswell of discussion that KZPT will do the Journal version of Hurban. It's not necessarily the version CC or SBS or CBS does successfully. It's the Journal version. Just like everything else there, if it doesn't work...modify it until it's modified into irrelevence. Then change it. Regardless of the body count. That's what got them into their 1.6-1.6-1.7 hole. Citadel certainly knew when to throw in the towel in that battle, resulting in their pulling away strongly from KZPT. Let's just wait and see. We don't have any other choice.

OK, this is the part that intrigues me the most. Where is the groundswell of discussion? On this board? I agree that strong rumors are often premature facts, but that is because they are based on mature facts, however minute. Where are the actual indicators pointing to the Hurban switch? YES, their suck-ass ratings are screaming "format change", but very specifically, what real indicators are out there that point to a Hurban change? I don't see it - what am I missing?

Re: KZPT mornings/Wake up and smell the coffee

I thought 97.1 Que Suave was Hurban???

KTZR is Spanish Contemporary. Their presentation is all in Spanish.

I think the problem with Journal going Hurban is that there is just not enough talent to go around in the format, much less within Journal. What are they going to do? Make D Cortez the PD? Let me put it this way... if CC had to go all the way to market #63 and pull two schmucks up to go to a top 10 market to do the format:

What does that tell you about the pool of available talent for Hurban?

Well than Hurban just won't work if there's no one with the talent to do it...as a matter of fact, who would want another Spanish speaking station? Don't we already have three?

If all of this is predicting than to me it looks unrealistic.
