L M A stations

I'm very pleased to announce that Laurel Taylor and Jim Davison have agreed to a new LMA contract for both WHTX and now 1540 WYCL effective January 1st 2012. They have done an outstanding job with 1570 WHTX. Congratulations to them both again.

And hey SM? Anything from 1200 and up will cost you MUCHO more money.

Score: Jim Davison 2 SM 0!

Enjoy!

It puzzles me why ANYONE would enter into an LMA.

You get the LMA, put all of the work, effort, goodwill, and promotion into a station you don't own. If you fail, your investment is gone. If you succeed, the owner will find out, and sharply inflate the sale price of the station, if they'll sell it at all...

If anyone would like a daytimer with 4 watts at night, WLFP-1550 is still on the block at $225,000. Even with 4 watts you get some nice places like Forest Hills and the Highland Grove neighborhood in McKeesport.

Totally off of the radio topic, but I can not believe I see on a Cleveland radio board, Highland Grove neighborhood. My dad owned a grocery store there from the mid to late 70's to early 1990's! ;D ;D

but it does not get out as far when your working with 500 watts . 500 watts goes farther below 1200 on the am dial.

OK, now to a few words on behalf of a market which has its share of possible LMAs both above and below 1200. WEDO-810 never confirmed it but someone was touting a 1,000-watt clear-channel daytimer here for $1.75 million for a while then dropped it.

SM, I'll ask one more time...do you know who "1250WTAE" is on this board?

:D

The furthest I have listened to the signal of WHTX 1570 AM (a 500 watt station near Youngstown) was downtown Cleveland on East 9th Street near the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum the other day, and all the way near New Philadelphia, Ohio, what more could you ask for with a 500 watt station...

In the OMW Mobile, 1570 doesn't quite make it to Summit County...heading east on Ohio 5 and I-76, it dies in static just east of Ravenna, and starts getting listenable past Alliance.

I presume that's due to the combination of 500 watts, and second-adjacent WAKR/1590.

I faintly picked up WHTX while on I-71 near the W. 150 St. exit earlier this morning (of course, blips from all the high-voltage power lines don't help matters that much).

Goodness knows what could be had if they were able to boost up to 5,000 watts daytime... ;)

Anybody can rent or lease something . 1570 Whtx can only get to 1000 watts which won't help it get any farther.

Tell that to Phillip Cato. ::)

Uh... I've heard otherwise, Eric. Just saying. :p

What matters more to WHTX is covering Warren and Youngstown. Reaching out to the Cleveland market during the daytime is the icing on the cake. And besides, they actually stream on multiple internet media platforms - AND also use Tunein for smart phone streaming.

On a good radio I could hear WANR-1570 back in the day from the Canton area. 1000 watts would probably get a more listenable signal in at least parts of Stark County..

If WHTX needs anything, signal-wise, it's more Valley coverage, particularly in Mahoning County. Even then, 1540 days takes care of much of that, now that they're simulcasting.

Oh, they also need the radio operations expertise of sharona mas....oh, heck, I can't even get that sentence out as a joke!!!!

:D

Actually you can hear 1570 WHTX fine in Mahoning county. In downtown Youngstown for example you can hear it with no issues or problems. Back when it was running FOX Sports some of the restaurants owners would have it on their radio's.

The 1570 signal, last I drove around in that area, made it about to downtown Youngstown with a relatively listenable signal in a car radio. It wasn't perfect, of course, being a 500 watt high-band AM signal out of Warren. But I can see catching it on a decent radio.

When I say "Mahoning County", I'm talking more about areas where the population has migrated to over the years...Boardman, Canfield and the like. 1570 is not really listenable that far south, for the most part. It does well north of downtown Youngstown, along the 422 corridor and the like, of course.

DX News Harry Hanes Reports Hearing WHTX 1570 in Wilkes Barre Pa, on Nov 16 @1942 Local time " Good at times with Standards music. ID's after all songs".
