Lack of Georgia-Russia Conflict Coverage

Given all the jokes about Georgia, the state, and
the fact that some dum-dum reporter actually put
up a map of the state, I wonder how many people
really believe Moscow is going to invade Atlanta?

As Frank Reynolds would have said, "Let's get this
nailed down so we can report this accurately."

Simple reason..Americans aren't interested. Those that are can tune in the Jim Lehrer hour on PBS. Now back to those Hollywood stars.

Allan Loudell on WDEL-1150 Wilmington, DE was talking to a poli-sci prof from Lancaster, PA's Franklin & Marshall College about the presidential race today. Along the way he broached the topic of jokes about the two Georgias (and especially about McCain's JFK-in-Berlin-like "Today we are all Georgians" remark yesterday in York, PA (see http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/08/12/mccain-we-are-all-georgians/ ). I forget how Loudell's conversation went exactly. I'll get back to that professor in a moment.

But first, I must tell you that the Peach State has no monopoly on Atlantas...

Atlanta, Delaware... is 4 miles sw of Bridgeville, DE (and in Bridgeville's postal zone). According to the Sussex County street atlas it appears to be a tiny crossroads. Atlanta, Michigan... pop. 757, the seat of Montmorency County, is in the "fingers" region of the Lower Peninsula, 35 miles east of I-75 at Gaylord, and 40 miles west of Alpena on Lake Huron. How did Sherman overlook those?... ::) :D

Oh, and that F&M professor? The name's Madonna. Terry Madonna. ;D I've seen him interviewed on WGAL-8 Lancaster when he taught at Millersville University. But that's another thread iykwim.

But, being a NYer, how did you miss Atlanta NY in the Finger Lakes region?

First of all, I'm NOT a New York Stater (by birth, or breeding, and never by residence), though I've driven the length of Cayuga and Seneca Lakes (the only FL's I've seen)

and

second, I only referred to the non-Georgia Atlantas *I'd heard about*. I'd never heard of Atlanta, NY.

I don't have time to whip out my Rand-McNally to find Atlanta, NY. I have a just a few minutes to finish getting dressed for work.

This isn't the first time for a Georgia invasion. In the late 80's or early 90's, the late Lewis Grizzard (a great American) quipped most Peach staters "blame all them damn yankees in Hilton Head."

My mistake, then. I thought you were from NYC. OK, so now you've heard of another. It's at the jct. of NY-21 and NY-371, not far from I-390.

The only way we'll here about the Russian/Georgia conflict on the news here is if Paris Hilton is killed while visiting over there, only then it would it be 24/7 news coverage here.

Or Brett Favre. Then ESPN would be all over it. ;D

With the Farve saga, all the good reports came from Wisconsin newspapers. ESPN used their reports for the most part.

Russia Today has non-stop coverage in English of the Russia-Georgia war since it began:

http://www.russiatoday.com
(click on 'WATCH RT NOW' at the right)

The coverage is very interesting, however this network is VERY BIASED. They blame everything on Georgia, and they won't talk about any deaths and ruins caused by Russia inside Georgia. They say that Georgia started this war by invading South Ossetia first. WRONG--South Ossetia and Abkhazia started this conflict by breaking away from Georgia. Russia handed out citizenship and passports like candy to people who never lived in Russia, so they could use the lame excuse to use military force to defend Russian citizens no matter where they live.

By the way, RT is carried on free over-the-air television in the US via 'MHz Worldview' on digital subchannels in Chicago, San Francisco, Washington DC, Denver, Las Vegas, Tacoma WA, Richmond VA, Flint MI, Daytona Beach FL, Ogden UT Charleston IL, and Charlottesville VA. Half hour airings are every day at 7:30 AM, 1:30 PM, 10:00 PM, and 1:30 AM Eastern (except no airing at 10:00 PM on Saturday). Also, Washington DC gets RT 24/7 on a digital subchannel.

Nah, I was born and raised in the Philly market and have lived in the Baltimore market since 1985 (except for a few months in '86 and '87 when I lived in South Jersey). But you're forgiven. ;)

OK, so now you've heard of another.

Thanks, dhett. One of the wonders of life... something new learned every day (no sarcasm intended).

Just found it on Mapquest. Thanks to you and it, I discovered that I actually, unknowingly, came within +/- 7 miles of NYS's Atlanta in October 1987 on the way back (via I-390) to Maryland from visiting friends in Toronto.

Thank heavens! I was losing sleep! :D

So here's the comprehensive Atlanta list. There's a reason I'm called "a veritable repository of useless information".
