Lady Gaga in decline?

Two years ago people were declaring Lady Gaga to be the next madonna or even comparing her to the Beatles in cultural relevance. Now, you hardly hear her on CHR-pop and most of her more recent hits since Born This Way have flopped. Is Lady Gaga in decline? You also don't hear much out of Kesha anymore either.

I am not anywhere close to being a littler monster, but I don't think Lady Gaga is necessarily in decline....she is more of an artist then your every day pop act. Most of today’s acts will do just about anything to get on the radio where as I believe Lady Gaga will continue to make the music she wants to do. Lady Gaga is what really launched the up-tempo CHR charts. It was not until her latest CD that my respect for her grew...and I could recognize the talent...she is more than a one trick pony. If the Chr audience would rather have LMFAO or Love you like a love song on the radio...it shows just how generic listener’s ears have become.

Her Born This way album was still the 2nd biggest album of 2011 with Adele having the biggest. Plus since Born this Way she has not had all flops...Edge of Glory was a pretty sizable hit...and You and I was decent hit as well.

Speaking of which if Big Sean's "Dance (ass) becomes a top 10 hit I am going to lose all faith in radio...it's bad enough it is a digital hit.

The only track from her last album I've really liked a whole lot was "The Edge Of Glory." That one seems to have lasted the most, and has crossed over the most. You & I did decently, as well.

Born This Way was huge, but it faded quickly. "Judas" had a lot of hype but really did nothing. Didn't care much for "Marry The Night."

I don't think she is anywhere near over, but I think she is kind of having a soft patch with some of her recent singles. I really don't miss hearing from Kesha.

Perhaps with all the talk about how "Born This Way" was "reductive" (in Madonna's own words) of "Express Yourself," listeners have sort of felt that the novelty has worn off and the quirkiness that was in the singles from her first two albums isn't there anymore. I thought "Judas" was a subpar clone of "Bad Romance" (sonically if not thematically) and that she tried too hard to be "artsy" with it but ended up with something that sounded dissonant and grating (although it seems to me in my conversations with others that those who do like that song, LOVE it). "Edge of Glory" has done well on AC and I think it will be one of her songs that still gets played years from now, but even that song isn't particularly "quirky." I do agree she needs a break.

Also, Ke$ha hasn't released anything in months, so I think it's way too early to declare her in decline.

Anyone who lived through the British Invasion and is now living through our current pop music mess will burst out laughing at the suggestion that any living performer had/has the cultural relevance of the Beatles.

News of the World - Fifty years from now (thanks to Rowan & Martin):

Question: What group was the best Rock n Roll group - The Rolling Stones or The Beatles?
Answer: Either. Both.

Question: Who was Lady Gaga and why don't you still hear her music?
Answer: <silence>

I've listened to and even enjoyed a bit of her music, but honestly, I don't see or hear anything about it that makes me think: "this is going to stick around a long time." It sounds much like the other fare out there right now. Artists that last a few years at most, then get married, make some kids, disappear, then try to make a comeback too late, and are yesterdays news.

The comparison with the Beatles and the like is a weighty one, and i don't think the two can be classified anywhere near each other, personally. But that reminds me of a few years back that someone, somewhere publicly made the comment that Eminem was going to be the next Elvis. Yeah, whatever.

I agree that of all the songs on 'BTW', so far, I can imagine hearing "The Edge Of Glory" the most in the years ahead.
Surprisingly, Gaga is thriving on AC. A lot of AC's play 'Edge Of Glory', "Paparazzi", "Just Dance", "Poker Face", and some even "Bad Romance." Especially now that the latter 3 have a few years on them. AC didn't touch those when they were new.

I wonder if any of this has to do with the fact that the 'sound' on BTW was different than "The Fame" - she has a variety of different sounds on this album, and the songs are 'deeper' than the first album's, IMO. The tracks on 'Fame' were more party-like and were more simple. I agree that the quirkiness is missing in 'BTW.' The songs aren't as.....fun. I applaud her for trying different sounds.

As for Ke$ha, her music is very disposable - "Tik Tok" is the only one I ever hear in rotation anywhere these days.

Agreed. I didn't say she wasn't still having hits. Its just "Born This Way" brought nothing even close to the level of Poker Face and Bad Romance. Her latest hits have been pale in comparison. I agree that Lady Gaga does have a bright future in performing but I am questioning whether or not it will be in Top 40.

Nothing unique about Ga-Ga's music. Then again, that's the condition of the recording industry in general, isn't it?

She is certainly a good singer, and has more talent in that regard, than many of today's artists, but she is not original and her music is derivative. Unless she seriously steps out of the box, she will probably be viewed as nothing more than a novelty five years from now. The sum of her act (her music, her "fashion" sense, her message, etc) is greater than the parts.

While I liked a few singles off her first two albums, the only thing off of "Born This Way" that I can tolerate is "You and I", and thats the single least like her others.

She was already washed up when her first record came out.

I was sort-of able to tolerate her "Alejandro" cut the first couple times through on VOA, but then it got old and annoying pretty quickly. Any more now, hearing her is getting to be like hearing a record of nails being scraped across a blackboard.

She will be in the Top 40 again, give her time

*You beat me to it.

*Oh, and I was wondering if I was the only one who thought "You and I" sounded like a country song.

*As far as Ke$ha, I believe "Blow" and "We R who we R" were her best ones. I think I hear "blow" more often, however.

Neon Hitch is better than Ke$ha, in my opinion.

Radio Now in Milwaukee still plays Blow quite a bit...which is a good thing cause it is the only kesha song I can stomach.

Sure hope those months turn into an eternity. *knock on wood*

I guess it doesn't matter whether or not Ke$ha returns because Amber Rose's "loaded" is about to take over, and I'm sure it will blow up. Ke$ha better watch out, or at least do something like remake L'Trimm's "we like the cars that go boom" and hope that her new redone version is as big as Bruno Mars's remake of "it will rain" to put her back in the game.

Or maybe it wont matter because people may think that Amber Rose IS Ke$ha when they first hear her.
