Anyone know whats going on in radio in the Lake Charles area in radio? Theres a very poor if any feedback from that area on this board.
Just curious if anyone lives there still.

Nothing new in LCH (since 1580 changed to soul oldies) and KBIU changed to 103.3...other than that, nothing changes in the LCH area....(well, except the LPFM or translators...and the move of 1310s transmitter site in the works)...but thats it ;)
(seriously is there any LCH listeners here? I think I see more postings on the Houston board about LCH than here)

Well, lets move the state line to Jennings then=)

KEZM moving their towers? Haven't heard about that one, CW. Will it improve their signal into Lake Charles? (Daytime's no flamethrower and that 50 watts at night is kinda like a Bic lighter...)

Bruce is losing the land lease...I think he found another site south that he can squeeze the towers in...problem is KXYZ in Houston on 1320 has some protection in the swamp area SW of LCH...if they didnt, 1310 could run omni...which he looked into....but couldnt get approved. Probably wont get any improvement on signal....

I like the Lake Charles market. I don't know much about it, but I do know that Moon Griffon takes a LOT of calls out of that part of the state every morning. So the news/talk on 1400 must be getting some response.

1310 AM's signal hasnt changed at all it sounds. I know when you get west of Sulphur along I-10, it fades down quickly. I think they have a directional pattern to the east towards Lake Charles, especially at night.

I remember when I lived in the Sulphur area growing up as a kid, AM 1310 KEZM played Soul Music, in the 80s. Don't remember what the format was in the 70s.
In the 60s 1310 AM was KIKS? correct me if I am wrong, it was close to "Kicks" the format was supposively rock n roll. I remember looking at their ad in the Sulphur High School Yearbook for 1962 in the ad section in the back part of the book.

I remember 1580 KLOU which was top 40 and a damn good station in the 70s.
I also recall (KSNS Stereo 96) which was at 96.1, thier offices were in Sulphur on Parish Rd, where the KEZM transmitter is currently.

and how about NOVA 104 , KGRA , which was at 103.7 in the early 80s.

others that I recall and remember in the Lake Charles area:

KLCL 99.5 (Beautiful Music) early 80s, Lake Charles
KTQQ 100.9 (Q-101, the Country Boss) which was in Sulphur

Lake Charles radio today is probably just like everywhere else, basically sucks. Shane, you bring back some memories of the late 70's. I worked nights at KLOU in '79 & '80 back when AL & Dixie Johnson owned it. She made me cut my hair or would fire me. Yep, back when radio was fun. Dave Chimeno did middays and was the chief engineer plus worked at KPLC. Is he still around? And probably misspelling his name but a real great guy. Paul Taylor did afternoons & nights. He's doing midday at KYGO in Denver. Robert Chambers, who has passed, I believe. Ben Garafalo, who did sports and play-by-play for the Cowboys. What a voice. And Tom Gallagher, who the Johnson's hired from KAAY in Little Rock during their heyday, was PD for a stint. He had no clue. It was located on Alamo Street in an old house painted yellow and the air studio with a big-ass picture window facing the parking lot. That was great during rush week at McNeese. The sorority girls would have to dance in their nities for us in the parking lot.

We use to hang out over at Q101 with Bruce Merchant and John Bridges. How he made it on TV, I'll never know. ;D I cut liners and newscasts for KTQQ to see if the Johnson would catch on but never did. He working with a former co-worker, Laila Marcos at KPLC. We got in a bit of trouble back then but it was fun!

Hope John and Bruce are doing well. And where is Chimeno?

I can tell you that Bruce Merchant has been doing the play by play action for Sulphur High Tors Football games on AM 1310 KEZM on Friday nights during football season. I also think he is doing the same with McNeese Cowboy Football as well.

I remember when 104 -KBIU (103.7) studio was located at 311 Alamo St in Lake Charles back in the day. Do you remember a dj at KBIU in the early 80's called Al Terry? I remember KBIU was off the air because of transmitter problems. When they returned on the air, I remember hearing Al Terry talking on the telephone with a personal phone call, not knowing that he was on the air. haha!

Bruce owns 1310 AM in Sulphur...trying to keep it afloat.....having to move it is a money crunch..
Dave left Cumulus and went over to Pittman's LC cluster a couple of years ago (I talked with him just after he left Cumulus) but I think he is full time at KPLC now...need his email addy?

I bet the dances in the parking lot were interesting! ;)

Thanks CW, the heads up on Dave's whereabouts. If you could, email me his address to [email protected]
That would be great. John Bridges told me about Bruce and his station in an email. Hope things work out on his antenna move.

And as far as the parking lot dances...too bad "rush week" was once a year!

I noticed that there is a 92.1 which is licenced to DeQuincy??? anyway they serve the LC area and don't have a website.
Who owns that station?

Apex Broadcasting

It has a great signal considering the facilities. Reaches almost to Lafayette.
