Lake Charles radio today is probably just like everywhere else, basically sucks. Shane, you bring back some memories of the late 70's. I worked nights at KLOU in '79 & '80 back when AL & Dixie Johnson owned it. She made me cut my hair or would fire me. Yep, back when radio was fun. Dave Chimeno did middays and was the chief engineer plus worked at KPLC. Is he still around? And probably misspelling his name but a real great guy. Paul Taylor did afternoons & nights. He's doing midday at KYGO in Denver. Robert Chambers, who has passed, I believe. Ben Garafalo, who did sports and play-by-play for the Cowboys. What a voice. And Tom Gallagher, who the Johnson's hired from KAAY in Little Rock during their heyday, was PD for a stint. He had no clue. It was located on Alamo Street in an old house painted yellow and the air studio with a big-ass picture window facing the parking lot. That was great during rush week at McNeese. The sorority girls would have to dance in their nities for us in the parking lot.
We use to hang out over at Q101 with Bruce Merchant and John Bridges. How he made it on TV, I'll never know. ;D I cut liners and newscasts for KTQQ to see if the Johnson would catch on but never did. He working with a former co-worker, Laila Marcos at KPLC. We got in a bit of trouble back then but it was fun!
Hope John and Bruce are doing well. And where is Chimeno?
