Lakes Region Radio

I used to live on the Lakes Region of NH in the early 80's....remembering WLLH as a really good station.
The morning guy was excellent, can't remember his name, then there was a mid-day guy named Chris Michaels...are these guys around any more? How about the AM stations, I recall WEMJ and another on on 1350khz. What else is happening in the area these days?

"Chris Michaels" was doing mornings at WLNH until last summer when he was let go. I believe he left & came back a couple times. At some point along the way he started going by his real name, Dominic Biello. I'm guessing the morning guy you're referring to is Warren Bailey who is out of the business (I want to say he's working for an ad agency now). He has had health problems over the years.
WEMJ is satellite talk and 1350 (the former WLNH-AM, now WEZS I think) is satellite oldies.

WEZS owner is a WLNH alum Garfy Hammond.

Warren was working for COMCAST.

Mr.Biello is writing a bookI believe.

Back in the 80s Ron LeRoux was the night guy. Konrad Kane did afternoons. I remember a gal named Gail Stewart on air at one point.

Yes I remember it too. WLNH was a daytimer on 1350 and WEMJ was and still is on 1490. I was the CE there in the mid-70's.

Mike what's a CE? You'll probably reply and I'll slap my head and say Duh! but I don't know what you mean. Lakes region radio was great in the 80's. Warren Bailey and Dave Simmons had LNH humming... Freddie Carouso (whos still there) was holding down mornings at FTN, 1350AM had a few incarnations... It was a country station I think the calls were WKZU... Then it was WMRS and oldies station called "the Memories station"... Ron Leroux was doing nights at LNH... Some of the partimers included Chris Brunell and Dean Rettig.

EMJ had Dave Emerson, Bob Magnason, Scott Nelson (Dirk Nadon), Lisa Gagnon, Marty Bash and Ted Forsling on news... Wasnt' Dave Simmons the PD there before going to LNH? They also had a midday/night guy named Mike Andresak who was very talented but a bit of a wingnut... Early in the 80's they had George Wright who was huge in the market. Let's not forget Lee Nolan, Dick Lutzk and Win Damon doing sports.

I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting and I've just bored the hell out of granitestate but I really don't care!

I did 7-11 for about 2 years at LNH and Chris Brunell was moved to 12mid-5:30Am. He was pissed. Dave Symonds was an amazing MD/PD. The station sounded great! Him and Warren use to but heads alot. Dave wanted the station to lean CHR and upbeat and Warren wanted the station to remain mainstream AC. I got fired in '91. I never really knew why but have some ideas. Dave is at CC in Richmond, VA. I do not think he ever worked at EMJ. I'll ask him the next time I talk with him.

WOW Splicer38...that was very cool remembering all those names. I do recall some now that you mentioned them. Think of the staff at WEMJ back in the day, they are most likely totally automated now.
Where have all the good staions gone?????
Peace

CE = Cheif Engineer! OK I'm slapping my head now and saying Duh! Yup I feel like an idiot!

Symonds worked at EMJ in 84/85 as the PD. Came over from CNL in clarimont. Jim who did nights at LNH in late 80's and early 90's... Hmmmm... I thought Ron Leroux had that timeslot for a long time into the 90's. When did he leave? Didn't he become a police officer or something?

I remember a Jim Mills and a Jim Currier on the are around that time... I think Currier succedded Simmons as PD... Which one are you?

I think that is Mr. Mills. Dave Symonds hired me for nights at LNH in April of '92. Jim Currier did overnights (I think) at the time and I'm pretty sure he did take over when Dave left. I went to WLKZ roughly a year later.
Anyone know where Jim Currier is now?

I believe Warren Bailey resumed programming duties when Dave Symonds left.

I was in TV by the 80's. I was there in the mid 70's and the PD was Peter St. James.

Remember when 'LNH had Bill White and the late Jim Mitchell doing news, circa '76-78? They were terrific. When Jim died from his heart attack a couple years ago, the press coverage of his death and what it meant to the little town of Warren was remarkable. Anyone know where Bill White is these days? He'd be in his late 60s in terms of age now...

Warner...JM lived in Warner,NH and owned a bookstore with his sister.
