Lame Coyote

I was listening to "Coyote Country, 104.3 The Coyote" (is that redundant, or is that redundant?) earlier today and heard Terri Springs say "Terri Springs here on a Tuesday morning..." Yea, that's exactly the kind of exciting & compelling radio that's going to un-seat KWNR!

LF

> Just what this board needs...another washed up has been to belittle people who are still in the business. You don't like the radio here, the market? Do everyone else a favor...MOVE! Quit hatin! You don't KNOW Terrie. Quit being prejudice. Don't judge what and who you don't know.
Wait until the book, or books come back, then say I told you so, if that should happen. Have a little class, and with your money, buy yourself some manners please.
I too am retired from the business after 3 decades. What's happening to radio is happening everywhere. Not only in radio, in every business. The pay scales of damn near every job is gone to hell in a handbasket. While I may or may not be a better programmer or talent, I am absolutely sick of people criticizing others in a negative light like this. If you are so damn good, get your butt in there and CHANGE it! If not, pipe down, and let the people that are in the business fight their own battles and do their job with the tools they have or don't have to work with.
Sorry sir, but with all due respect, the only LAME one is you. Put up or keep quiet. You can do better? Buy it with your millions and SHOW us! Actions do speak louder than words sir.

> > Just what this board needs...another washed up has been to

Oh, I get it, people are allowed to have opinions on here if they coincide with your own. Is that it?

> You don't KNOW Terrie. Quit being prejudice. Don't judge what and who you don't know.

No, I don't know Terrie. But I know what I hear coming out of my speakers and it sounds lame. Perhaps your opinion is biased by the fact that you do know her.

> Have a little class, and
> with your money, buy yourself some manners please.

I have plenty of manners, but I'm not allowed to have an opinion?

> What's happening to radio is happening everywhere.

That doesn't make it right, nor does it make for good radio. If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?

> If you are so damn good, get your butt in there and
> CHANGE it!

Yea, I'll just walk in there tomorrow and tell them I'm here to change things. That will work.

> Put up or keep quiet. You can do better? Buy it with
> your millions and SHOW us! Actions do speak louder than
> words sir.

Again, am I not allowed to have an opinion? I don't have millions, but if I did, I could slaughter KWNR. But "Coyote Country, 104.3 The Coyote (isn't that redundant) is not gonna do it with what I've heard so far.

What’s, redundant is your useless opinions! (or is that redundant) Would you PLEASE refrain from your tactless, insensitive comments about others! Is your life soooo boring that you have nothing better to do than bash people who YOU FEEL are no good on the air? Are you hoping maybe the Program Director of the Coyote will read your comments and fire Terri and hire YOU instead??! If so, I suggest PROFESSIONAL HELP! You seem to have a LOT of opinions about Terri Springs, what did she ever do to you???….My opinion about Terri Springs is that she is a hard-working professional who always give 120%. And, since I’m on opinions, I have an opinion about YOU! YOU are an arrogant, self-important, clueless ego maniac! You make unnecessary HURTFUL comments about others that I find utterly nauseating; does degrading others make you FEEL LIKE A MAN?!! All you do is offer criticism, but no solutions…since you have so many opinions about other jocks, you must be one of two things:

1.) A programming genius. or
2.) An out of work talent less, puking disc jockey, that no one in their right mind would hire.

I’d bet a thousand dollars it’s the latter!

LFUSS how do you feel about MY opinion? I’ll bet you DO NOT like my opinion and disagree with me completely. Now, just imagine if Terri Springs reads all your enlightening comments about her…HOW DO YOU THINK SHE WOULD FEEL???!!!

Oh yeh, what I said about you, “ is just my opinion”(sound familiar)

LFUSS take some good advice I was told as a child…”If you have nothing good to say don’t say it” This business is a very small community, and if you get “Black-Balled” you are usually out for a whole career…I’ve seen it happen. Or has it already happen to you…I would not be surprised if it has or will soon.

LFUSS Please lets try to keep this board POSITIVE! And please stop viciously attacking other people.

Thank YOU

> What’s, redundant is your useless opinions!

My, that's a very well thought out response.

> Would you PLEASE refrain from your tactless,
> insensitive comments about others!

All I said was that what I heard coming out of my speakers was lame. That's not insensitive. That's an opinion.

> Is your life soooo boring that you have nothing better to do than bash people
> who YOU FEEL are no good on the air?

Yes, that's it exactly.

> Are you hoping maybe the Program Director of the Coyote will read your
> comments and fire Terri and hire YOU instead??!

If I wanted to still be on-air, I would be. But I don't, so I'm not.

> You seem to have a LOT of opinions about
> Terri Springs, what did she ever do to you?

A LOT of opinions? My only opinion was that what I heard sounded lame. She may otherwise be a tremendous person. I didn't call her a communist or insult her cultural heritage or even say she looked like a sow. She may be a knockout for all I know.

> YOU are an arrogant, self-important, clueless ego maniac!

That's what makes me so lovable.

> You make unnecessary HURTFUL comments about others that I find utterly
> nauseating

Hurtful? Somebody has really thin skin if they were hurt by what I said.

> All you do is offer criticism, but no solutions

The solution is to get better jocks or a PD who can bring out the best in his jocks. Jocks who have nothing better to say than "Ed Jock here with you on this Tuesday morning..." should be taught how to come up with better banter.

> 1.) A programming genius.

You don't want to go there.

> 2.) An out of work talent less, puking disc jockey, that no
> one in their right mind would hire.

Former air talent in two different major markets, both Top 15, but we won't go there either.

> LFUSS how do you feel about MY opinion? I’ll bet you DO NOT
> like my opinion and disagree with me completely. Now, just
> imagine if Terri Springs reads all your enlightening
> comments about her…HOW DO YOU THINK SHE WOULD FEEL???!!!

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. If I were Terri, and had read that someone thought what I said was lame, I'd recognize it as the truth and figure out a way to come up with better things to say on air. I still have a copy of the old RKO jock manual that says "don't say useless things like the day of the week, everybody knows what day it is" and "the temperature outside is..." Sadly, few of the current crop of "talent" ever read anything like that, or even a Dan O'Day book for that matter.

> LFUSS take some good advice I was told as a child…”If you
> have nothing good to say don’t say it”

If you applied that rule to everyone on this board, there'd be about half as many posts.

> if you get “Black-Balled” you are usually out for a whole career…
> I’ve seen it happen. Or has it already happen to you…I would not be
> surprised if it has or will soon.

I've been self employed for 20 years, so I'm not too worried about that.

> please stop viciously attacking other people.

There was no "vicious" attack. If you think what I said was vicious, perhaps you need to check your dictionary. All I said was that what I heard sounded lame.

LF

While I don't exactly agree with Ifuss's way of talking negative about Terri, I have to agree with him in some instances. I think Terri is a WONDERFUL JOCK and personality, but she is not country or even close to country. She would sound AMAZING and perfect on Sunny, KJUL, or The Oasis. The Coyote needs a few things in my opinion.

1. A young upbeat female for mid days.
2. BETTER IMAGING. Their imaging is horrible. It sounds like something that would come from the Highway Stations or a small market like Victorville.
3. A Website... Check out www.kyce.com and tell me what you think. They need pictures of the truck that they're giving away on their website.
4. I cannot stand the sound of "Coyote Country, 104.3 The Coyote"... in my opinion, it's just as lame as "The Best Of The 80's and More." It lacks serious creativity. First off, what does The Coyote bring? It should be something like "Your New Country Station,- 1043 The Coyote" or "Today's Best Country- 1043 The Coyote." Bottom line, lame as hell name.

Before you get all defensive, please know that I do not like to diss stations at all. I like to respect what I hear. But, if Beasley wants to go against KWNR and win, they need to be seriously creative and not lame about this. This is market 32 next book, not market 100. Be professional, creative, and think ahead! Don't be lazy or you aren't going to win. UPDATE THAT WEBSITE AND BE SERIOUS ALREADY. Geez.

I've done this dance before. I agree with fmwhore. Since jocks have been put on The Coyote it has become a disappointment. The Highway Stations comment is right on. At current pace they will NEVER unseat KWNR. And, I'm sorry, Terri does NOT sound good...I honestly thought it was a joke.

Now, everyone quit being so thin-skinned. Where else can you discuss openly the quality of radio, jocks or the business in general. Why is it you so fiercely defend Terri? Yes, she's a nice person. She and her station just sound small market. Sorry guys but the truth hurts.

>
This from a guy out of the market.
I applied for both openings at the station, did not get the job,but would like to bring up a point or two. First, give them a chance to get their act together, its hard to change a format, get a website up,get your jocks on the same page, and get the formatics down in just 90 days,I've been there and done it and needed a drink or two on the way. Second, give the jocks a chance,if they are not familiar with the music or how to present it,the learning curve is steep,as it would be in any music format.
Give them time, everybody at KCYE is in a new pool and its not quite full yet.
By the by I receive very nice responces to my inquiry about the positions from the station,so that makes them good people in my book.
Thanks for the time

Good answer from a class guy, Mike good luck with
you in your career. Who besides radio freaks
and third string second guessers, constantly prowl
the web sites, listen for every possible weakness
on the air, and tear up talent in the first 90 days
of a station launch?? I've been involved in a half
a dozen format launches,at least Coyote is doing it
with talent, and not taking the easy way out &
going 100 percent jockless.

By the way LVradio vet has been asked many times
by pros to show us his qualifications, and background
after he savages stations, jocks, and other individuals
who post. To this date he hasn't ponied up. Me thinks,
he never will.

There's Nothing Wrong with Saying "Terri Springs here on a Tuesday morning..."

Sheesh.

Re: There's Nothing Wrong with Saying "Terri Springs here on a Tuesday morning..."

> Sheesh.

It shows she has nothing to say. Some programming guru even wrote an article about it several years ago - it was called "The Wednesday Afternoon Format." It was about jocks who had nothing better to say than "Ed Jock with you here on a Wednesday afternoon." It's about as blase as saying "the temperature outside is..." (gee, I wonder what it is inside?) and other mindless drivel that passes for entertainment on some stations.

LF

> at least Coyote is doing it with talent, and not taking the easy way out &

They were jockless for the first month.

LF

What Mr. Fuss said was a simple voicing of opinion and not rude in the least. The ones attempting to drown him out are the ones with the shrillest voices, hurling uninformed insult after insult while telling the rest of us not to criticize.

Offering an opinion is not being hurtful. If an on-air talent is so thin-skinned that they cannot handle the fact that some people will not like them, then they picked the wrong business. The ones who want to "protect" Ms. Springs are, in fact, the most insulting, acting like she is some fading heroine in a Tennessee Williams play who will plunge into a deep depression from the least unfavorable comment.

I'd have to agree with you. What's wrong with IFuss, LVRadio, etc. for voicing their opinion? Nothing is wrong. This is a discussion board and people can express their opinions. You don't have to agree with them and you can defend (in this case, Terri), but are the very harsh and cruel words necessary to the starter of this thread? No, its not.

Be nice boys and girls.

> I'd have to agree with you. What's wrong with IFuss,

And at the risk of starting another flame war, here's another opinion...

I was out driving around last week and heard their new night guy. Has this guy hit puberty yet? He sounded like he was maybe 14 years old. Is this the best they can do in market #32?

OK, let the attacks begin...

His name is Rob Banks. He's a really good guy. He most recently did parttime at KWNR, but has worked at several different LV stations over the past 10 years including KLUC, KXTE, the old 101.9 KISS FM, and a former country station known as Y93.

What surprises me is that COYOTE has him going by the name "Rob" instead of "Rob Banks" which has name recognition with the country audience.

Perhaps I have been a bit quick to judge with The Coyote. True, a station does need to find its way and to pass judgement in the first 90 days might be a bit quick.

Honestly, Collinsradio if you think they sound good...maybe your clients need to re-think having you as a consultant. Every facet of the radio station is disappointing...from the aforementioned Terri Springs to the small market logo to Rob at night. Rob, like Terri, is a nice guy, or shall I say, person. But, are you telling me he was the best they could find for the station? Or, did they select someone that was already in Vegas that they knew would accept $18-$24k a year.

For years we've been waiting for someone to take on WNR and initially I had high-hopes for the Coyote. Frankly, it is awful.

I've always been a big defender of Las Vegas radio...I shunned the comments that all Vegas radio does is regurgitate talent. I was wrong. In Terri and Rob that is exactly what the Coyote has done.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Las Vegas sure is proud of how fast it is growing.....so many people getting inflated over "Market 32". What the Ladies and Gentlemen behind the desks are not sharing with you is that Revenue is also skyrocketing while budgets are the same - They are still paying SMALL Market salaries and taking in Major Market Billing.

IF KWNR is billing 12 million a year - and Beasley wants a peice of that. They will have to actually pay for talent. I'm guessing that Terri in middays is not making 85K a year, I and I'd also bet that their afternoon guy is not over 6 figures. - Not knocking them OR what they are being paid, but I would suggest that Beasley is overly optomistic if they think they will easily dismantle such a heritage station with what they're bringing to the game.

If you think any mid-day talent is this market is making $85K or any afternoon talent is making six figures, you seriously need to put down the crack pipe.

I bet the average salary for those positions in Las Vegas is closer to 50% of those figures.

Right you are and thats why radio is losing listeners...no talent.
It's not just Las Vegas. Radio has become it's own worst enemy. Ipods, Sat. radio or MP3 are not the biggest threat to radio it's Radio itself.
