Large / Major market CC, TAKE A BREATH!

Sounds to me like "Round Mound of Sound" is one of those obnoxious "I work in radio, RESPECT ME" guys we have far too many of on this board.

Remember, Round Mound, CC always does another round of cuts right before Christmas. You're not out of the woods yet.

Dude...I don't work for CC. In fact, I'm the one who originally tried to tell the OP that *they* may not be safe because of CC having a habit of cuts right before xmas. If you're looking for obnoxious posters please consult the OP of this thread, who likes to demean brother broadcasters just because they may not work in as large a market as he does.

While I've been in the broadcasting business for many years, I'm still not sure there's a strict cutoff point where major to large to medium markets occurs, it's a bit blurred. But any way you look at it, the Orlando radio market, is, at best, a large market, and possibly a medium market, in some eyes. The Orlando television market is another story, it's ranked much larger because of all the real estate and TV households covered.

Gotta love the big networks on great VHF frequencies:
2-WESH/NBC
6-WKMG/CBS
9-WFTV/ABC

In terms of revenue, Orlando is a medium market at best.

So where do you get that?! Times have been tough, but generally Orlando has generally outperform it's ranking revenue wise.

BTW, generally, markets 1-25 are considered "Major". Markets 26-50 are "Large". "Medium" is 51 through 100. Markets 101 and above are considered "Small".

We are in the 19th DMA in the United States, AKA our TV market size - about 9 Central Florida counties, if I remember correctly. This makes Orlando a Major TV market. Our Arbitron metro, which is just three (3) counties is ranked 34th and considered "Large Market".

In terms of radio, all I know is that at least one major ownership group would love to get entirely out of the market because they don't feel there's enough money there. They haven't been able to sell their entire cluster in one shot because of the economy the last few years, otherwise they would likely be out.
