Larry Ahrens on-the-air

Jimmy O'neil did a good job during his short stint in Abq, and was snatched back to LA for Shindig.
Ironically Jack Good the internationally reknowned producer and co-creator/Producer of Shindig, ended up in Chimayo ,NM. Jack with his International background and being from England, was a very interesting guy and was gracious enough to guest on a local cable access music show, I would guest host on occasion, talk about some stories, wow. Jack was the Don Kirshner of England, worked with all the major groups including the Beatles.

The local talk show hosts in this market engage in wimpy banter with mundane quests for the most part.
The local talents appear to be afraid of shaking up the status quo.

Maybe they are afraid of making the advertisers and the politicos angry and nervous?

Villanucci when he is not just putting callers thoughts on the air, makes an occasional stab at stirring the pot.
However For the most part the local talk show hosts merely perform as a babbling bridge between commercials.

Local Talk Radio is for the most part boringggggggggggggggggggggg.

Hey a bright note, the new jazz station on translator 103.7 could be a winner, even though its been tried before.

Indeed, "Local" Talk Radio can be, as you say, "boringggggggggggggggggg...", although I haven't had the opportunity to listen to Larry A, this thread's namesake, since his exit from KKOB.

My take on local-talk is that programmers presumptiously overestimate listener interest in hometown stuff. Their shows often evolve into "babbling" and fluff on subjects of special, but limited interest. Listeners seem to favor the more fiery exchanges offered by national politics. Denver's KOA AM skillfully screens it's local talk, milking only the most provocative of topics, effectively drawing the most interesting listener response, so the format works here. But I concur, local talk often turns into snooze nooz.

Chris Jackson had balls on KAGM-FM ,the rest were extremely talented but boringggggggggggggggggggggg

The real bottom line is that the guests, interviews and topics for the most part were barf.
