hey marty...this is troy walker...i also worked for larry there....matter of fact....you and i went to media day in fville together once....how are you

Hey Troy. Great to hear from you, I suspected you might be someone I worked with back in the day. I am station manager for the Fox affiliate in Fort Smith/ Fayetteville. I had just discovered this board and saw Larry Dean's name. I would like to find out what ever happened to him. Give me a call some time and catch me up with what you are doing.

I just ran across this message board today and was amazed to see the inquiries about Larry Dean. I am his wife. Larry passed away June 29, 2008. He lost a hard fought 5 month battle with conjestive heart failure. Larry would love it that you all think so much of him. He lived and breathed radio and country music til the day he died and was a walking encyclepedia about the subject. I've heard him mention a lot of your names. Thanks so much for thinking of him

Mrs. Dean,

My name is Troy Walker. When I was 17 years old, Larry gave me my first job at KXSA, then KAKA. He was without a doubt the greatest country music announcer I have ever heard. He had such a wonderful understanding of the people who enjoy the music, where it came from, and where it was going. He was never too busy to teach and guide me and he tried to teach me all he could....down to the difference of when to say the and thu. Couple that with a wonderful, warm voice with a soothing timber....and you were glad tocount Larry Dean as a friend and mentor.

I remember when I got my first program director's job. Larry was more proud that I was and he always had time to help me when I needed it. I remember when I was working at KAMO in Rogers Arkansas I got a call one day from someone who asked me if I knew Larry. I told him yes,Larry had given me my first job. Then he paid me the greatest compliment I have ever received or ever will as an announcer. The caller said that I sounded just like Larry. I will never forget that....even though I never felt worthy of the comparison.

After I was lucky enough to get into Law Enforcement, Larry was proud of me again. Even though I loved being in radio, he knew that I has always wanted to be a Police Officer. We were able to visit a few times over the years, and we always shared a few laughs.

I now work as a Detective for the Boone County Sheriff's Office in Harrison. I think about Larry all the time. Mrs. Dean I hope that knowing that there are still a few of us out here that know, love and respect Larry will give you some comfort. I lost my father on June 17, 2008. Those same kind of people have been a comfort to me.

God bless Larry Dean and may he rest in peace. On the country station in Heaven....ther is one heck of a show going on....and Larry is having a great time!

Dana,
I am so sorry to hear about this. I like you just came across Larry's name and this board. I still have some pictures with Larry at a radio remote in DeWitt that we were working in the mid 80's. He was a true professional and a lot of fun to work with. Please accept my condolences.

Marty Houston
