Last Song for WRXP

After Midnight ET: ???whatever Merlin Media has in its bag of tricks for the immediate future??? Possibly (as reported) a music format for a couple of weeks followed by the talk format's debut.

Hopefully these links below will remain active through the format switch for those out of the NYC area. They may revert to the new "online only" version of Rock 1019 RXP (formerly "The NY Rock Experience"), at which point the new station's website may become active, rumored to be http://www.1019WYNY.com and likely with new webstream links. We'll see how much of a transition period there is.

WRXP Streaming Audio Player: http://www.1019rxp.com/Stream/index.aspx
WRXP Direct URL Stream Link: http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WRXPFM.pls (lower quality)
WRXP Direct URL Stream Link: http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WRXPFMAAC.pls (higher quality)

Doubt those streams will work after midnight for the 101.9 signal. Heck, someone ought to set up a UStream channel to "stream" the over-the-air 101.9 signal during the obvious format stunt that will be taking place. If I was closer to NYC I would LOL ;D

My guess after midnight: 101.9 will have an across-the-board non-format format for a week or so - literally playing anything from Katy Perry to Marylin Manson to Frankie Yankovic to the theme from "Knight Rider." Also-ran HAC WMVX/106.5 Cleveland executed such a format stunt in flipping to adult hits WHLK "The Lake" back in January.

Now Lovelines is taking callers mourning the loss of Q101 in Chicago...wonder whether they figured they'd be taking these calls on Lovelines tonight...

The show is prerecorded at 1AM Eastern Time (10PM Pacific Time) the previous night. (What is fed on Sunday nights on the East Coast is recorded at 1AM Eastern Time Friday morning/10PM Pacific Time Thursday night.)

Chances are Dr. Drew and Co. will talk about WRXP's sign-off "tomorrow night," i.e., an hour after the station ceases in terrestrial form. Or they might not, given that RXP was a relatively newer affiliate and had nowhere near the history that Q101, born from NBC in 1977 after the failure of the News and Information Service, did.

Loveline ended a few minutes ago, and then they played Cage The Elephant followed by Pearl Jam, with "Rock 101.9 RXP" sweepers in between. So the rock format isn't completely done. Of course, it's not midnight yet.

Are you listening over the air or on the webstream? If it's the webstream, it may be a moot point - Emmis still has control over that and likely will break away from the 101.9 signal. If they hadn't done so already.

they play a 5sec clip of a guy saying going out of business forever right at midnight ,q101 in Chicago is doing a live show right now!!

Nope, listening over the air. Just after midnight, they aired one of the usual WRXP legal ID sweepers followed by Adele's "Rolling In The Deep". Hmm, there's a song that could be used as a seamless transition from their alternative format to whatever type of female-oriented music they might play...

And that's what I'm hearing on the stream right now.

They had been playing that "going out of business" drop-in between almost every song this evening.

And Adele was followed by a sweep and a Viva Brother song. None of the cutting off or dead air that usually accompanies switching off the air feed and going to the stream feed.

Yep, followed by Darling Buds Of May by Brother (relatively new RXP track, and a catchy one.)

Hm.

Followed by a Dawes song. Perhaps Uncle Randy's surprise will have to wait until the morning.

It definitely sounds like the station is going to run on autopilot until a stunt can begin.

My guess: this afternoon at 5PM, the 101.9 signal will separate from the webstream to go into stunt mode for a week or two. Merlin should have a separate studio for "WYNY" set up, no? It's all about switching STL links.

The Adele song was added within the last month or so.* Looks like it'll be the 'RXP format on autopilot with the usual sweepers...for the time being. For a coupla hours, days, weeks, maybe...or will something else be thrown onto the air in the interim? We'll just hafta wait 'n' see...

* Edit: noted in previous post.

Is 101.9 going to flip to a stunt format or do they just program an automated version of RXP for the next few weeks?
