Last Song for WRXP

101.9 HD2 is back up with the usual smooth jazz fare & sweepers as of 12:29am ET.

Looks like we'll just have to check in every few hours over the next few days/weeks, especially at certain "time markers" such as Midnight, 5am, 6am, 9am, 10am, Noon, 5pm, 6pm when a format change is likely to happen. Of course, it's quite likely that Merlin Media will release a statement 24-72 hours ahead of the actual flick of the switch that brings the change to 101.9 FM. They'd also probably promote their new website at that time.

Interesting that WKQX in Chicago is still live with a special edition of their Local 101 show well past midnight. Host Chris Payne says he's not supposed to use the "call letters" (he actually means he's not supposed to say Q101) while the jockless New York Emmis station is still IDing as "Rock 101.9 RXP" with all their usual imaging.

Every now and then, i hear somethin 'bout goin out of business though? Its a pretty fast what... drop i think it would b called? what is that. Not sure what they are saying, but it sounds to me like its evidence of a format change comeing to RXP at some point.

There is a format change coming, we don't know exactly when the change will take effect. I can't remember, though, hearing a station wind down and say its goodbyes, only to keep playing the same music and imaging elements. Usually it does something totally different right away, even if it's not the format that eventually ends up on the frequency.

Yeah I recorded the entire last day minus the 6 am 10 Am slot and Loveline.
I know for a fact when i was home I heard goodbye's and things.
Its weird to see it going on as if nothing is comeing. I remember when WNEW went CHR to Blink then to Mix.
Or when WLCE wen to WSNI here in Philly.
Nothing like this. Its odd I do agree with you there.

Indie 103.1 did this when they went off the air a couple of years ago. Basically they just played the same five songs that were in Indie's playlist in a loop with a message directing people to go to their site to listen to Indie1031.com. It's not that unusual.

This is more then the same 5 songs.
At first I began to think p part of the stunt was leaning more eclectic. Then i started to hear like Wonderwall, etc and thought not.

It was announced Q 101 in Chicago will stay on 101.1 through Monday than programming will shift to 97.9 HD2. I think it's probably safe to assume 101.9 here in NYC will stay Rock through the weekend as well and start their stunting Monday as well.

Well since the DJ's said good-bye already, I suppose that means tn they will run automated, and I'm curious to see if there i is the heavier daytime camersial load?

Totally useless to wait until monday for the stunt. Why wait so long?!

Here is another good one for RXP

The Who - Song is Over

That was Bob the Blade's "sign off" song when he quit then-country WRDU in Raleigh (previously, it had been a classic rock station for about twenty years, and when they flipped to country, Blade was a holdover). ::)

It takes time to cart up the new format.

HD receivers have nearly disappeared from shelves as manufacturers stop producing them. Why would Q101 even bother putting the old format on an HD2 when any listeners who might want to follow it there will have a hard time even finding a radio?

I think it's their lame attempt at being able to say "Well Q101 still exists in some form." Q101 will also be streaming online along with 101.9 WRXP. But both will just be an automated Juke box with no personality. Might as well just throw your Ipod on shuffle in my opinion.

I think it makes sense to keep feeding Q101 and RXP's music for the weekend rather than going into a stunting format for the entire weekend. Plus it makes all the pissed off people over the flip a little happier to keep their station for the weekend. Keeping the Rock on both stations for the weekend will keep a bigger audience through the weekend in my opinion. No need to rush anything especially if the permanent format is weeks away. Either way changes should come sometime Monday to both stations.

I hope the permanent format change is not weeks away, that is totally pointless.

Wow, you just can't win. Most people complain because "they didn't get a chance to say goodbye". So, Emmis does the right thing, knowing that the LMA will "probably" kick in today, and lets everyone say goodbye yesterday (and likely take today to clean out their desks) and people still complain.

Keep in mind that they don't even have anywhere to broadcast from yet, because Emmis still has properties in NY. As for Chicago, I'm sure there is some logic in waiting until Monday there as well, since they need to get into the building to do prep work to get things going.

"Roxk 101.9 WRXP" Ends... And "101.9 FM New" Begins

Moments ago, they came out of a five-minute commercial break (impressive considering their current state) with The Ramones' "Do You Remember Rock And Roll Radio" followed by Foo Fighters' "Times Like These."

Now playing: The Who - "Long Live Rock".

Followed by: dead air.

Now playing: Kid Rock: "All Summer Long."

Legal ID: "WRXP. WRXP-HD, New York. 101.9 FM... New." (Note the legal ID was split up between three different females. "101.9 FM New" - so, is that gonna be the new name?)

Now playing: Goo Goo Dolls: "Give A Little Bit."

Jingle: "101.9 FM... New!"

Now playing: Rick Springfield: "Jesse's Girl."
