Latest Area Repack Developments

First of all, WUTF's move-in to Needham was granted:
https://fccdata.org/?appid=25076f915eaa0135015eee06b5a867c5&facid=30577

Secondly, WFXT's proposal to maximize its pattern was granted:
https://fccdata.org/?appid=25076ff35f490dae015f4f9918590bb2&facid=6463

And......last but not least....It looks like the WNEU move-in to Needham / signal maximization proposal may have hit a snag (at the very least), because WNEU filed for a minor modification with the Commission on Valentine's Day.

There is a comment in the WNEU application referring to discussions with FCC staff, so this may be all they need to change. The actual reduction in coverage area, per the maps, is slightly more of a null towards Connecticut and Rhode Island, probably because of stations in CT that will be on ch 28 and 30 after the repack, and possibly the future ch 29 on Long Island.

They're both C170 antennas, so yes, it's the same pattern.

The modified WNEU app was granted today.

That leaves only the WUNI (formerly WUTF) app to move to Needham still pending.

WGBX has applied to increase ERP from 455 KW to 922 KW post-repack on Ch 22. Current power on Ch 43 is 500 KW.

This seemed all too familiar, and it appears the FCC actually reposted the same application from November, which is one that previously had corrupted PDF's in it.

RabbitEars.Info would disagree with you.

According to them, the post-repack RF-22 would be WBPX......and the post-repack RF-32 would be WGBX.

You are right - that was just a typo, 22 instead of 32. After I saw the new FCC CDBS application dated 3/8/18 and partially wrote the first post, a second WGBX application for a power increase didn't seem right, and checking further, showed the FCC had just reposted the November request, probably to correct the previously corrupted PDF's. However when I went back to correct (or delete) my first post, the peculiar RadioDiscussions editing timer had run out, preventing edits. Anyway, there is nothing new, except the now viewable documents.

Just noticed two new subchannels on WUTF.

27.3 is TBD Network, a hodgepodge of digital and web-based entertainment shows and features aimed at "millennials" (I also get this over the air on 10.4 from Providence), and 27.4 is Stadium, a sports network.

Additional Repack Developments

https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=wjar

WLNE's CP could result in a powerful signal reaching from Eastern Connecticut to near Cape Ann, MA north of Boston.

WPRI and WSBE have also had their CP's granted: Non directional signal patterns - for WPRI on RF7 at 27 Kw; WSBE on RF2 at 10 Kw.
No changes for WNAC or WPXQ, though I heard on this message board that they were possibly planning to move to Newport, RI.
Also WRIW-CD, the Telemundo station on ch 50 (RF36), shows that it will be channel sharing, but no channel is listed for that.

WPRI had the bad luck to be moved from ch 13 down to 7, as part of the repack, though they did not participate in the auction.

Now that WSBK's signal maximization application was granted......that leaves only WUNI in addition to WJAR still pending in the Boston / Manchester and New Bedford / Providence markets.

One more development, so...a little updating is necessary.

The granting of WJAR's signal maximization plan now leaves WUNI the only station still pending in Boston / Manchester / New Bedford / Providence.

WUNI is not actually part of the repack, since they will stay on real ch 27. Their request is just to move the transmitter about 15 miles, so it probably is not a high priority to the FCC right now, which is flooded with TV and FM translator apps.

In other minor Boston news, W40BO, ch 40, Needham, the analog translator of WYDN-DT (still in Needham until they begin channel sharing in NH) applied for DTV on ch 26 from Needham.

And the long off-the-air Deutsche Welle WHDT-LD, virtual ch 6.1, real ch 38, One Beacon Street, applied to use 3 KW on real ch 4 from an unspecified nearby location.

OOPS ! ! ! Right you are.

I forgot that WUNI wasn't actually part of the re-pack.;)

Both are owned by Sinclair and both have popped up in Hartford a couple months ago on their soon to be acquired Tribune Stations WTIC-TV 61 and WCCT-TV 20.

I wonder if W40BO, when its digital signal goes on the air, will relay WYDN's signal from Concord, NH, and go full power so those of us in the Boston/Worcester/Providence areas will still get the WYDN's signal.
