Washington Latest in Tri/Walla Walla

Is KPQ-102.1 back to full power? They seemed much stronger here in Yakima the other day, 3+ bars on the Supertuner and RDS didn't drop out.

I say possibly. I can't tell from Moses Lake as KPQ is a local there, but RDS is definitely a lot easier to get here in Pasco.

K237DP in Kennewick is changing the primary feed from KLKY to KWDR HD2. The paperwork was filed today:

"I am changing the primary station we broadcast to KWDR-FM HD2 Royal City, WA owned by Jacobs Radio Programming. We received permission from the licensee. Our previous primary station recently changed its format so we are going to rebroadcast a different primary."

So what is KWDR HD2? Is that Jacobs' Tri-Cities Smooth Jazz? The main channel is Tri-Country 102.3.

What is now KLKY? I thought is was Mexican-Spanish language, e.g. groupera, ranchera, etc.

KTRI (ex-KWDR) 93.5 does not transmit HD at all, although KLKY is Regional Mexican.

Perhaps, although KTRI has previously filed two Digital Notifications without ever going HD so I'd be shocked if they do. Also K237DP still IDs as KLKY Stanfield/K237DP Kennewick.

K225DG (ex-K282AA) Kennewick is now transmitting on 92.9. The translator has RDS with PI code 2FD2 (KMBI).

Picket-fencing time! There's no way that this won't interfere with KGDC in many parts of the region. In fact, it might even cause problems with KDBL if it isn't pointed away from Prosser and Grandview!

The modified license for the translator includes a lower ERP (274W -> 11W). We'll have to see how it interacts with KDBL and KGDC.

In Moses Lake, K299CC 107.7 (//KBSN-AM; ex-K296BP 107.1) came on the air last month from a transmitter site south of I-90. KWVN, which has always been strong there is now a source of interference for the translator, especially in the morning, and K299CC is completely gone before you get to Othello.

As if Tri-Cities needs even more stations on the dial...look at all the LPFM applications! A 92.1 to blot out KUMA (won't happen), two applying for 100.5 (isn't KWIQ already strong down there?), and an LPFM for 103.9 in Yakima (lol - that WON'T happen, right next to KXDD?!) Who is going to listen to these stations?

Also, two CPs for Ellensburg (107.9 - Calvary Chapel and 98.3 from a non-profit arts foundation). This is an underserved area, the 98.3 could be interesting (and KEYW is very weak there). Off-topic, but I've always hoped that Ellensburg could gain a usable classic hits signal...whether it's a translator of Cherry FM or a translator of KCSY/93.9/106.3 Sunny FM up in NCW.

Agreed. There is an audience for a good TripleA in the Tri. I did not like everything the Oasis played, but they made up for it with they DID play! I miss them already. The only thing I could find to replace them on my pre-sets was NWPR. They are interesting at times, boring at times...kind of like The Oasis was. But I prefer The Oasis! Someone please bring this format back.
I have a solution for you. It's called Spotify.

KWIQ is virtually non-existent in the lower elevation areas, especially along the river. Can't even get it at my current place in Pasco. But once you get up high, like closer to I-82 and in West Richland, it becomes very strong - even KDRM comes in a little. KPQ on the other hand, booms everywhere. 100.5 is actually a good frequency for an LP station, if it's well under 100W and in Pasco or Kennewick. KHSS 100.7 transmits in HD but 100.9 is open in much of the area since Cherry FM doesn't come through very well.

Crainbebo missed one in the region. It's 105.9 Othello, between Richland and Moses Lake:

It's a school district proposed radio station. This one looks like a winner.
I have a feeling this one will be constructed, although its signal will be virtually non-existent in Tri-Cities and marginal at best in Moses Lake.

There's also this CP in Roslyn on 92.9: https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&facid=782939 -- KDBL Yakima isn't very strong at this location, and I don't ever recall receiving KZZU.

In Wenatchee, there's one on 97.1 (currently a weak KXRX): https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&facid=788639. There's also a CP for a full-powered Class A on 91.7 (KHUC), which will probably be a simulcast of KEEH Spokane. KEEH is expanding its reach, with a new full-powered repeater going in at Sandpoint (KKEH) earlier in the year.

Townsquare seems to be consolidating a lot of their AM sites.

First , KIT in Yakima is now diplexing on KUTI (just filed L2C). The latest proposal is for KFLD to diplex off one of the KONA towers, with the limiting contour being adjacent-channel KPAM 860 in the Portland area.

That's too bad. I've enjoyed Kool FM even though they are a satellite jukebox. The satellite mix is slightly better than many other stations in large and mid markets.
The normally noisy signal from KKSR is also missing in the Yakima Valley. It's on a 1500 watt aux transmitter near Kamiakin HS, and not the usual Pikes Peak transmitter (near Walla Walla...not the mountain in Colorado, of course!)

I personally liked the music on Kool FM, just don't like the ads. I typically listen to 88.1 KTCV anyway.

I noticed KKSR was missing from Moses Lake along with KBLD 91.7. KKSR is running at low power while KBLD was completely off (as I noticed in Pasco).
