No one, and I mean NO ONE, sells or profits from the overall (6+) ratings. Those ratings are a matter
for statisticians and reporters, because while the overall ratings aren't a revenue generator, they are
generally considered to be newsworthy.
Indeed, it's difficult or impossible to assess the overall performance of a station (or a cluster) without
seeing the overall performance of its competitor. For those of us who watch the smaller stations, like
WJPA, WPKL, and WHJB, this is a withholding of meaningful historical statistical information.
The bottom line (literally) is that Arbitron will neither generate additional revenue nor save any money
by listing "subscribers only." They will, however, piss off a lot of people, and have. Count me among
the people pissed off by this particular parochial procedure.
