Just my 2 cents, but since Arbitron instituted its pay to be listed rule... the ratings just don't seem that relevant anymore nor does it reflect an accurate measure of the market. It's like hey we're #3... never mind there are stations that may have a lot more listeners... but aren't listed because the owner didn't want to subscribe to the service for some reason or another.

1020 down--no snow days, no school delays, no listeners?

'dve down? Krenn effect?

Fan steady--spring training? Will they rise with the Pirates season starting?

After a long period of improving its methodology and restoring some goodwill among broadcasters and
people who monitor the industry, Arbitron has once again shot itself in the foot.

No one, and I mean NO ONE, sells or profits from the overall (6+) ratings. Those ratings are a matter
for statisticians and reporters, because while the overall ratings aren't a revenue generator, they are
generally considered to be newsworthy.

Indeed, it's difficult or impossible to assess the overall performance of a station (or a cluster) without
seeing the overall performance of its competitor. For those of us who watch the smaller stations, like
WJPA, WPKL, and WHJB, this is a withholding of meaningful historical statistical information.

The bottom line (literally) is that Arbitron will neither generate additional revenue nor save any money
by listing "subscribers only." They will, however, piss off a lot of people, and have. Count me among
the people pissed off by this particular parochial procedure.

Can't imagine that's a big factor in March, especially with so many alternatives to getting news out on closings (TV crawls, Internet, text message, etc).

Ah, one less source of copy for Radio-TV Notebook.

1) Is Renda out of the PPM's? There is no numbers for WSHH. That means this book shows WLTJ as leading AC barely over WBZZ which has no format on this list.

2) WWSW beats BOB. Why?

3) What will women my age do if we don't know how WSHH is doing? Guess I can still stream WWRM from Tampa.
