The Vibe is mostly for Non-Comm stations/college radio stations. The "Urban Alternative" format was created just for those stations.
Not exactly Salem. 97.5 The Vibe in Tucson and 98.9 The Vibe in Buffalo are both Classic Hip Hop owned by Cumulus. You are talking about Houston.

I see now. Im not up to date with The Vibe. But I have been following the Corporation for Public Broadcasting formatted "Urban Alternative" format that has been popping up on some college and non-comm stations. I know its a digital station on KTSU 90.9 in Houston.

Wasn't Classic Hip-Hop already tried and failed here on 94.5?

Historically 93.3 has always struggled, I'm not entirely sure what they could try at this point that hasn't been tried on that frequency before. Since we're throwing hypotheticals out there, given the success of KZPS and the struggle of The Eagle they may as well bring back 93.3 The Bone.

The Bone or anything in the ballpark of Classic Rock is not an ideal format for the underpowered 93.3 signal. Too much of that potential audience is outside the 65 dBu contour to be competitive against the much larger Cedar Hill Class C signals.

The ideal formats for 93.3 are Urban AC, Urban, Reggaeton, or possibly another spanish-language format, although that space is very crowded.

...or combining 93.3 with another signal-challenged rimshot signal, such as KTCK, especially if they refiled to move to Downtown.

93.3 was playing around with the Classic Hip Hop, and 94.5 out of nowhere flipped to Classic Hip Hop to beat 93.3 to the punch, so 93.3 went in another direction.

I don't believe Classic Hip Hop is a complete failure, because many markets are still running it.

I don't disagree with bringing back Classic Rock, especially with KZPS doing so well, but I believe Classic Hip Hop deserves another chance as well.

Urban AC is already on two weaker signals. We need one strong signal Urban AC. 93.3 tried Urban for a hot second back around 2015, 2016. They couldn't compete with 97.9 and 104.5.

93.3 is a very solid signal in the areas where an Urban AC would need to have a strong signal. It's not so great in Cleburne or Prosper however.

Urban One did a poor job programming its classic hip hop signals. They didn't make the programming elements appealing enough to Caucasian and Hispanic listeners.

Hot 93.3 during its short lived classic hip hop stunt, which I want to say occurred around the holidays some five or six years ago, earned it a 2.7 or 2.8 share. Their music selection and stationality was much better executed than that of 94.5, too.

93.3 would probably do better with a classic hip hop format. Call it 93.3 Jamz. It would be a format that no other station is doing. It could create some buzz if done right.

I absolutely agree.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Cumulus uses Westwood One Classic Hip Hop on their stations with that format:

KZSR-Tucson
KNEV-Reno
98.9 The Vibe-Buffalo

If Cumulus is not spending money to beat KHKS what makes you think they would spend the money to beat KRNB or KZMJ? Signal alone will not be able to beat those established stations. Classic Hip Hop alone will not work, but a playlist that is focused on 1984 to say about 2005. We are talking hip hop/new jack/ r&b/and a splash of neo-soul. But it has to be local...people who lived here during that time period who know the neighborhoods/ the moods the feel of Dallas/FW. That has a chance.
