That's exactly what I was thinking. With a stronger signal, Majic just might give KRNB a run for their money.
You would think that both Urban One would put the Adult R&B station on the stronger frequency but they haven't. It must be that the KBFB is making more money on 97.9 than KZMJ would make.

But Salem, now they are seeing the lowest number they have had since their existence, wouldn't they consider going head to head with the top Urban in the market which happens to be Urban AC? Not Hip Hop anymore?

Salem does not do general market formats... they do conservative talk, contemporary Christian and "Teaching & Preaching".

Typically not, although they do have a few outliers like Classic Hits, Sports, and Country amongst others.
All of which can avoid lyrics and lifestyles they don't agree with.

Ooh, if true, then it's safe to say that Salem is, indeed, more than happy to promote good Christian lifestyles through the tunes of Pour Some Sugar on Me and Before He Cheats.
I can't imagine programming a country format that excluded songs about cheating and drinking. Yes, there are many songs about the virtues of country living, monogamy, warm weather, etc., along with those that proclaim how wonderful country music is, but a whole format with nothing else? I'd rather hear the preaching!

Oh it exists... Positive Country. KBVP and KBLY carry it.

Salem knows one color: green. It's perfectly fine doing general market formats when it will make it money. Granted, general market formats aren't central to its business model, but it does them when its primary formats are already done, and it can make money doing something else.

Salem owned and operated KDGE 94.5 in Dallas and KALC 105.9 in Denver briefly before swapping the former for KLTY and selling the latter to Emmis for nine figures. It's had a handful of other general market stations, too, though it eventually sold or swapped most of them outside of Hawaii. It also keeps one in South Carolina. It also said it would keep the top-40 format on WAVA when it was acquiring it so long as the entire staff stayed. Of course, we know what happened. Don & Mike had expiring contracts, crossed the street to WJFK, and Salem nuked the station the second it walked in the door. We'll never know if it was being truthful or just posturing, though I'd assert a company that intended to run religious programming didn't need to posture if it had always intended to nuke the station. Then again, I knew a couple people who worked for Salem in the 80's, and neither of them had many kind things to say about the management of the company.

Wasn’t Salem thinking about converting KDGE to a religious station. I remember seeing it listed on 100,000watts.com as “to be religious pending sale?”

As I recall, they swapped KDGE to Sunburst for KLTY. KLTY simulcasted on KPXI 100.7 (Tyler) at the time. As an alt rock fan growing up in East Texas, I had a naive hope that maybe KDGE would move to 100.7 and simulcast on KPXI.

That was the rumor, but Salem announced it would keep the formats of KDGE, KALC, and WYGY shortly before closing on the stations.

Salem operated KDGE for a few months but swapped it to Sunburst for KLTY. Clear Channel threatened to take KTXQ to a modern rock format, and Sunburst dealt the intellectual property of KDGE to Clear Channel and the signal to Radio One.

Hey yall...this cat was asking me "salemjedi54" a question. Yes at one point I did work for Salem Communications/Media Group. When I learned about this site I chose that user name. I just never changed it when I left.
