Okham's Razor - Sometimes the simplest answer is the right one. Babe told the Cowboys he was uncertain he wanted back. Too many missed weekends of little league, etc. Once the radio deal was done and Brad was set, attention turned to Babe...and he reached his decision. CBS-11 can still say it has the only ex-player in the market anchoring sports, gets someone who's on the set during October/November sweeps, and still has two or three games to broadcast during the season. Babe gets family time that money can't buy. And the Cowboys get a chance to do something new. And since, as someone insightfully pointed out, there's a coast-to-coast network to consider. That limits anything crazy.
Dale isn't out of the question at all. Jerry knows who the big dog still is, although 8's ratings situation might make them less willing to let Hansen be distracted. But he isn't their first choice. Won't be Charlie, either...and Bill is quite happy where he is now.
Hello, Woody...and he'll do very well.
