Laufenberg leaves Cowboys' radio booth

From the DMN

The Cowboys will have a new analyst on their new radio station. Babe Laufenberg, citing a desire to spend more time with his family, told the Cowboys on Thursday he would be leaving the seat that has been his since 1997.

Meaning, "I've been fired, but they are letting me appear to be resigning to keep some dignity AND to not mess up my reputation with Channel 11 viewers."

Up next for the broadcast booth: concactenated (sp?) voice bits retrieved from old Frank Glieber recordings, pieced together and installed in a 'speak and spell' machine for Sham to interact with. (It'd sure beat Jeff K, Newy, Max Miller or any other local wannabes.)

Hurray for Babe, putting his family ahead of his job. He did a fine job on the Cowboy broadcasts. I'd guess one of the Ticket staffers will be picked to do color, since Jerry Jones would not want the opinionated Dale Hansen back. Any thoughts on who?

The station cancer himself, Gor-Don Keith?

Since the Cowboys radio network is more important than the flagship station, I doubt we'll here one of the Ticket boys doing color (unless it's Hitzges). Is Emitt Smith busy these days?

And with his razor to get rid of
that perpetual two day growth

Just my two cents, but...if the NFL network uninvited deuce-deuce back, I'm fairly certain the Cowboys won't want him in that role. As was mentioned on the Ticket yesterday Charlie Waters would fit that role well since former players seem to be the in thing for color commentators these days.

Oh Gawd...ANYTHING but that!!!

The DMN did not mentioned anything about the games being broadcast on the Bone next season, something tells me something is going to happen with the Bone after Cumulus owns them. What do you think??

What is the commercial all about with him and Troy Aikmen riding in the limo, entering what looked like a stadium. Have anyone else seen this commercial?

Wrong. The job pays less this year, and so Babe declined.

That's probably a mistake on his part. As Dale always understood, the Cowboys color job is a constant boost to your reputation among fans (i.e. viewers). Babe's bosses at Channel 11 should have paid him extra to accept the job!

I say good for him. Making a decision like this to spend time with his kids is admiriable. He's right ,they are only young ones. Good decision Babe. So will Dale come back? I wouldn't rule it out.

It's a promo regarding the upcoming announcement about a new game from the Texas Lottery. Has nothing in the real world to do with anything "real." And that was NOT Texas Stadium they were driving into (as it was apparently intended to look)...it was the Ballpark at Arlington's delivery dock.

If the offer from the Cowboys to Babe (yes there was one) was too low, one can expect the job to go to someone "up and coming" vs. a seasoned veteran of that type of thing. An "up and comer" would accept less for the opportunity.

Look for it to be a former player from the 90's era. Hopefully NOT from an earlier time.

Are you thinking of Bill Bates? He played safety and a crossover player from Landry to Johnson.

Anyone know what Darren Woodson is doing these days?

Okham's Razor - Sometimes the simplest answer is the right one. Babe told the Cowboys he was uncertain he wanted back. Too many missed weekends of little league, etc. Once the radio deal was done and Brad was set, attention turned to Babe...and he reached his decision. CBS-11 can still say it has the only ex-player in the market anchoring sports, gets someone who's on the set during October/November sweeps, and still has two or three games to broadcast during the season. Babe gets family time that money can't buy. And the Cowboys get a chance to do something new. And since, as someone insightfully pointed out, there's a coast-to-coast network to consider. That limits anything crazy.

Dale isn't out of the question at all. Jerry knows who the big dog still is, although 8's ratings situation might make them less willing to let Hansen be distracted. But he isn't their first choice. Won't be Charlie, either...and Bill is quite happy where he is now.

Hello, Woody...and he'll do very well.
