Laughlin out at CBS LA?

I've noticed he hasn't been sending Don Barret all of those self-aggrandizing emails trumpeting the success of the stations in his cluster of late. Perhaps he hasn't been able to justify his salary with any perceptible change in results?

Here is what I received in an email:

Roy Laughlin Stepping Down at CBS Radio/LA

(January 26, 2009 - 3 p.m.) CBS Radio President Dan Mason has sent an email to the staff that Roy Laughlin will be stepping down from his position as Senior Vice President and Co-Market Manager for the CBS RADIO Los Angeles cluster effective immediately.

"Roy has brought much to the table in the few short months he has been with us and many of his ideas and strategies will benefit us long into the future," said Dan Mason. "Fortunately we are in great hands with Dan Weiner helping guide the cluster. He jumped in a short while back lending his guidance, insight and strategic thinking to our operations and has proven he can skillfully direct the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. You can count on Dan’s leadership to steer you through this transitional period," concluded Mason.

This is slightly strange and makes one wonder what's up with Roy. Not like Mason to bring a guy on for just 4 1/2 months...particularly someone as high profile as Roy. For those who are close to him: Is he ok?

No, he is still delusional and continues to believe that there are no Hispanics in LA.

Just like his brother ::)

David, you are Johny on the spot. does Univision know that they are paying you to post over 14,000 messages on this site. Geez man, don't you have some work to do?

Speaking of Univision...I had a lunch meeting at the Hughes Center today and noticed the Univision building close by and thought of you, David E. I know you fly a lot for business and thought, you can't beat that adjacent-to-LAX location for an office if you are going to travel a lot for business. :)

Unfortunately, that is the TV facility. Radio is in Glendale, a nice hour or hour and a half from LAX in peak traffic periods.

Last I checked, slavery was abolished close to 150 years ago; most of us have free time that we can use as we please...

Oh. That's a bummer. Shame that Burbank is not an international airport, huh?

Who said anything about your right to free speech or slavery? Lighten up, Francis. I do, however, find it interesting that with downsizing in the broadcast industry, anyone would have the need for someone who spends as much time posting on a chat site as you do.

Actually, it is! There are flights to Canada and Mexico out of BUR, although I have never taken either.

Maybe they look at the ratings... ;D

...and now back to the subject of the post...

From the language of Mason's staff email it sounds like Weiner's solo MM position is temporary. Any speculation on who "The Dans" might be wooing to come to CBS/LA to replace Roy? Trip Reeb back from San Diego? CCLA DOS Jeff Thomas? Citadel's and former KOST/KBIG GM Craig Rossi? (they both worked with Weiner at CCLA) Does Pat Duffy come out of retirement? Does Bob Moore get a promotion?

Or will the position just fade away over time and they chock it up to cost saving measures?

Wow! Crazy! Roy is a great salesman! Someone mentioned an, "Ambulance", incident. What is that about? Best wishes to their family otherwise.
