Legal And Illegal Power Aliens

Lumberyard 14~Forty Power Change Report
Friday 4/4/08
by Dr Akbar 'n Nurse Jeff

YIKES!

An actual legal ID shortly after 7pm followed by Sam & Dave then the infamous Gumpdusky carrier dump. Five minutes later the Arizona Gold Mine is pumpin' out the oldies with a blazing 52 watts of Lumberyard Pow-Pow-Power. Still not sure why it takes five minutes of being off the air to change the power?

So the Nurse and I passed the hookah around our Buckeye Media Hut living room and wondered if we should take early retirement. Seems our work is just about done: Gumpdusky is finally using their nightime power authorization; KT'R's Master Blogger has quit his writing career; KFuNN no longer waits an hour and a half after sunset to change their pattern; and the market value of our '76 Gremlin now buys a seat on the Clear Channel Board!

Can anyone think of another reason we should hang around this board a little longer? Too bad our ol buddy Zumahans disappeared...we could've turned everything over to him!

You still need to get Joe Crummey back on the air, Doc. With a REAL show, like the one he used to have. And please be careful. Every time you invoke the name of Zumahans, he comes back, kind of like Lord Voldemort.

More like genital warts.

Don't go Shadegg on us, Doc. No Favre-ing from the Middle Eastern Men of Media. Your Esteem is hard won. In ten years of posting, you two have weathered a lot of camel spit. Don't go now. The ol' board isn't the same as it ever was (and how!), but it'll be less so if you go. Stick around, with your fez and your gremlin and your outrage. Do not go gentle into that good night, yo.

Thus concludes my tearful appeal.

Maybe he can be the new host of the East Valley Radio Network... er...

I thought it was K- "F-in" -X.

It certainly was back when the headbangers were let loose to
wreak havoc in the midnight time slot. ;)

BTW, someone must have pulled the plug manually at the
lumberyard last night. After a legal ID at 7:01:40, there
were maybe the first 3-4 notes of Ferry Cross The Mersey
then poof! Static. And KAZG never did come back on...
no 52 watts, no nothing.

Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind? whether to sign off?
I guess Lumberyard 1440 did tonight (Sunday). After legal IDing at
7:01:00, they Spoonfulled until 7:01:35, when someone--or the
infamous lamp timer--yanked the signal.

But wait, there's more!

After a "silent night" on Saturday (real old-timers will know what
that refers to, although there isn't much else to listen to on 1440),
KAZG was back on tonight with their incredible 52-watt "no-torch"
at 7:07:11...music JIP, no ID.

As for the other two:

KFNN reduced power per terms of its license seconds before 7:00.

KFNX hit the power dump switch at 7:03:28--amusing since it
occurred right in the middle of the automated "wheel-o-current
temps" voice track following the Howlmeister's canned weather.

Can anyone explain why Lumberyard 14~Forty goes silent for eight minutes while changing from 5kw to 52 watts at sunset? Not being morning people, Nurse Jeff and I wonder if it takes as long to power up at sunrise? Shirley, we're not the only ones on this list with no life!

bonus points if you can answer this....has KAZG pulled the liner referring to Lumberyard 14~Forty as Your Daytime Gold Mine? Employees of Gumpdusky and their advertising agency are ineligible to play. Winner responsible for all taxes and prize must be claimed by no later than 11/22/05 copyright 2008 Middle Eastern Men of the Media Enterprises.

Maybe they have to wait for the transmitter tube to cool down, before they can pull it out of the socket and replace it with a lower wattage one. Like when you change a light bulb. They can't afford two sockets and a double throw switch.

First, to get the obvious out of the way...don't call me Shirley. ;)

I dialed up the lumberyard this morning minutes before 6 and at
6:00 they powered up directly from 52 to 5000. No dead air.
And did their 6:00 legal ID shortly thereafter.

Speaking of legal IDs, that's the one thing I've not heard in several
extended listens to the KAZG Evening Serenade this week.

Nurse Jeff and I didn't have much to do Sunday night, so instead of listening to the Luvable 1 shill for his boss we tuned in Lumberyard 14~Forty. After about 90 minutes of back to back oldies, we realized not once did Gumpdusky identify the station - no jingles, no liners, and no legal ID. It appears to the Middle Eastern Men of the Media that whoever programs the computer doesn't realize those elements should be included at night. It'll probably take a couple more months or more before the left hand of Gumpdusky realizes the right hand of Gumpdusky has turned Lumberyard 14~Forty into a fulltime station that no longer yanks the carrier after sunset. (hmmmm...maybe we should have listened to Luvable 1 afterall!)

....Over the shifting sands......One hump, or two???

I've become attached to the ole Lumberyard! It has the perfect signal and playlist to remind me of those good old days in the 50's driving around Tucson and trying to find Top 40 tunes out of KOMA (because KTKT went off the air at sunset). Just the right amount of static and commercials (although I haven't heard them play one for the Seat Cover King just yet). Only thing missing is the likes of a Chris Borden, Buck Herring or Frank Kalil.

Did Kay - Oh Mmmm Aay play My Way? Just doesn't fit with Sam the Sham or Little Eva on either side. Must be the fave of a Gumpdusky Exec's wife.

Maybe we could get Lumberyard 1440's image voice to record this sounder:

(Echo) "If you don't want it heard on KAZG News, don't let it happen!" ;)

Dr Akbar (oh most respected and venerable sage)

You missed a great show Sunday, I'm sure you tape the show when you go somewhere else so you'll get to hear me shill for the boss. (Or did I do that Saturday)?

It just wouldn't be the weekend without the Luvable 1. But with Gumpdusky's decision to fire up those blazing 52 watts at night, Nurse Jeff and I've been hanging around Lumberyard 14~Forty quite a bit. Perhaps if you'd get Russell Pearce to co-host we'd listen a little more. Nothin' like talk radio for normal people, even though we're not!

Sure hope 14~Forty is on Friday night. Guess the Thursday night jock called in sick and Gumpdusky yanked the carrier. The Nurse and I know this is no way to build TSL. What a way to run a Lumberyard

No dice.

Also no ID, no music, no blazing 52 watts, no carrier, no Ponderosa Lumber spots--
not that there ever were any, to my knowledge. Not even an "encore" presentation
of Nancy Pelosi's Fan Club. (Is that still on?)

Just a talk station somewhere (with an hour of Neal Boortz commencing at 8:06)
fighting for skywave domination with muy reverb radio.

By purely divine providence, I was at the lumberyard site at sunset tonight.

I had to walk to pick up a car that had been repaired there. I got to the building with the stuff as the sun set.

Such a beautiful place, there were all kinds of red and green diodes a flashing in the building. But it looks like no one has entered that shack in many a day.

At sunset, the canal road is a peaceful place, offering the gritty reality of car repair shacks, wood refinishing and custom door shops, along with the peaceful repose of flowing water via the canal.

It would make for a damned fine PHX AZ Radio illegal picnic. If you keep to the dirt banks of the canal, Scottsdale can't actually touch you (which is why all the signs on Thomas are planted in the canal soil, and not on the Scottsdale regulated and taxed asphalt.)

And, post sunset, its dark enough so that no faces could be easily recognizable.

Was it something we said?

Gumpdusky has deprieved Oldiesfan, Legend City, Nurse Jeff and me of cheap entertainment by failing to keep Lumberyard 14~Forty on at night. Oh how we miss hearing songs that have been played to death on a high end AM station with kickass compression and those blazin' 52 watts!

First it was ADOT turning state highways into toll roads. Then Aunt Carlos being banned on a propane powered bus at ASU (hmmm..are TMISU behind this?). Now the Valley is back to having it's one and only daytimer. Good thing the Nurse and I are trained professionals and can self medicate. For the rest of you, it's gonna be tough!

please note: In addition to accepting pesos, Akbar 'n Jeff's Buckeye Media Hut now accepts 20lb bags of rice. Even if you don't have a programming problem, we'll help you find one!
