LENO IS BACK...AND...WHAT?

Ouch! You've heard of "death panels"; NBC just used the "memory panel"!

I tuned in Jay for 20 minutes. After I saw that virtually nothing changed from his 10 PM show, I quicky switched to letterman and enjoyed a very funny show.
Letterman, funny? Okay, I get it, you don't like Leno, but Letterman hasn't been funny in about 20 years! He's obviously still bitter about losing the Tonight Show gig. He'll have to start sleeping with interns again if he wants ratings!

It's ironic that someone who is considered by many to be a comedy legend is criticized on a blog by a poster who claims he "hasn't been funny in about 20 years" and then follows it up with a real hum-dinger of a zinger about sleeping with interns to get ratings. That's the equivilent of a Little League player saying that Derek Jeter is a bad baseball player...and then the Little Leaguer gets in the game and makes four errors and goes 0 for 4.

With the ratings Leno has been getting, and should they hold up, how soon before Dave names Conan his heir apparent on "Late Show"?

Letterman on Late Night...HILARIOUS!
Letterman on the Late Show...EHHHH
I've always tried watching him on the Late Show but it just wasn't good anymore. So during the Conan Tonight Show era I'd have to watch something else while I waited for Kimmel or Fallon to start.

Okay, I get it. You like Letterman, too. But he's still past his prime. His best stuff was on NBC. And he's still bitter about losing the Tonight Show. And it's a fact that his ratings went up when the intern scandal broke. Tough to argue with the truth, isn't it?

I think the set is way too large for a show like this... the audience is sitting too far away from Jay, especially when he does his monologue. The opening theme is too mellow... The old show had a more cozy look and an opening theme with quick cuts & more energy.

Based on what has happen so far, my opinion is that they're using Studio 11 as a temporary home for the Tonight Show. After all, this is a very sudden transitional phase that the Tonight Show is going though now. I think the energy from the old show will eventually return. At least the set looks better than before, although some will disagree with me.

It appears they're rewriting history in saying that Sarah Palin's appearance on Tuesday was her debut on the Tonight Show, even though she already appeared on Conan's Tonight Show back in December. Maybe I'm wrong and they meant in the combined history of Leno's Tonight Show leaving out Conan's era.

Well, the Palin Conan appearance was just a cameo, but point well taken. It's as if the Conan Tonight Show never really happened if you ask NBC.

I find people who say he was funnier on NBC haven't seen Dave lately. The writing and bits have gone more off the wall over the last 2 years...more bizarre humor than before. I think Dave's Late Show is much better than his old NBC show myself...I laugh out loud every night. But I find myself switching over to Jimmy Kimmel a lot lately...with all the late night talk, he's really underrated.

I stop watching Letterman regularly a few years ago, mostly because I got sick of his type of humor. But every once in a while I tune in when the guests are on. To me, the Letterman's guest interviews tend to be more interesting and have less fluff when compare to Leno's.

In my opinion, the Late Show set looks so much better than Leno's reconstructed Tonight Show set. I like how Letterman's desk, unlike Leno's desk and his Tonight set, actually matches the rest of the Late Show set. I remember when he had a plain looking desk and painted it a bright green. It looked ugly by itself, but the segments involving the green-screen desk were funny.

Letterman now. Not nearly as funny as the 80's. Larry Bud Melman, Chris Elliott, Brother Theodore, Emo Philipps, dropping stuff off a 6 story tower, Guy Under the seats, The Fugitive Guy, Mr. Curious, The Monkey Cam, Viewer mail. It's a no brainer. NBC Dave was THE BEST!

CBS Dave. Still funnier than Leno. But doesn't even come close to NBC Dave.

Conan. No way he should be out of a job, but Carson Daly is still employed. There is nothing that seems right about that!

I don't think Carson Daly counts. I mean he wasn't mention at all when NBC first decided to move everyone back thirty minutes to get Leno out of prime time.

But you're right about your comments. With NBC in the shape it's in now, I think Conan is better off not be associate with that network or have to follow Leno anymore. I would feel sorry for the current Late Night host, but Fallon just annoys me way too much to care.

Carson Daly doesn't really do a typical late night show anymore. He does a documentary style show, more ala MTV style which suits him very well. But I assume when Comcast and NBC merge there's a possibility that Chelsea Lately might move to that timespot right after Fallon?

I was asleep, so I didn't check out Jay Leno's triumphant return to The Tonight Show. (I did DVR it, but no time to watch yet).

I was expecting to see all kinds of posts this morning about how great or bad the show was...the Conan fans trashing the show, while the Jay lovers extolled Leno's virtues,

So...was everybody asleep like me? Anybody? Anybody?

I just watched the monologue and of course the "Wizard of Oz" parody. That was great. The monologue was enjoyable, I guess.

I can't stay up like that every night.

Or hope Oprah comes on [which he probably does anyway].
