It is with deep sadness that I tell everyone of the death of long time radio performer Leo Valovich today. He was 70. While he may not have been a household name in all corners of the market, in the Hazleton corner, he was a legend. He was the host and creator of "The Make Believe Rainbow Room," which originated on the old WWSH-FM and continued for about 25 years on WAZL-AM. There was also a TV version on WYLN. It was a unique "theatre of the mind" show which mixed big band music, humor, satire and fantasy. There was nothing else on radio like it and there's never been a radio performer quite like Leo Valovich. His booming "Voice of God" was instantly recognizable. In his younger days, he was good jock and a good newsman. I heard his aircheck of him on the air on the old WTHT they day JFK was assassinated. I knew him very well. He was a good guy, a class guy and a very talented performer. He will be missed.
