Leon Gray

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that Leon Gray is no longer on 680. According to the Flyer, Jerry Dean had no comment.

Because no one noticed? or is listening?

/obvious cheap shot
/took it anyway

Seriously, I read the Flyer article. Did you see where the liberal bloggers are petitioning the station to have them rotate through the slot? Political positions aside, I've always though AAR was poorly done radio. Just think what would happen if they put a bunch of completely inexperienced bloggers on. Talk radio ain't easy and takes experienced professionals to do it right. Could this be the end of the format or has Dean got an ace up his sleeve? I wonder if he'll take Thaddeus Matthews up on his offer?

;D Cheap shot, true...but when someone leaves a door that wide open-somebody has to slam it shut.
It HAD to be said.
I know Jerry Dean.
He has nothing up his sleeve.
The only thing in his shirt is the hand of the Entercom puppet master.
Whatever move "Mother" wants him to do-he will.
There is nothing original or creative about the man.

Remember, Thaddeus Matthews said he would work for free! ::)

I wouldn't go near that one.

yes i noticed but have been too busy traveling to try and find out whats up
and on thaddues... please god save us all.. thank god for xm if he ends up on that station i will boycott it just on the basis of how much of a fool he has acted like in the past

I like the concept and purpose of AAR, however, Randi Rhodes is the only true broadcaster of the lot....and even she goes overboard from time to time. The morning show is getting better, Sam Seder (sp) and Janeen Garafalo are OK, but Franken is hard to listen to. I hope he runs for Senate and wins. Sorry to hear about Leon, he is a veteran broadcaster who can create intelligent and thought provoking programs. He sometimes wore his ethnicity on his sleeve and got a little offtrack.
The problem with progressive (or liberal) radio, at least locally, is finding advertisers. Even with a 6 ort 8 share, the format would struggle financially because of the "bible belt" conservative mentality that permeates this area. Local advertisers on 680 have told me that a good number of callers contacted them and threatened to boycott their store if they continued to advertise on that station......sad....but true. Years ago when WHBQ 56 was news talk, they had a great talent named John DeClough. He did great shows, but had no advertisers.....except Unpainted Furniture.

It's too bad they don't even realize that it all would be just free advertising for them.
I have noticed losts of music beds playing where spots should be especially at night and on the weekend.

I wish leon the very best he is truely one of the guys I have grown to respect very much.

I wouldn't be shocked to hear that another station or a polititian was being the boycotting stuff

Mike Malloy is the best they got.

As for folks who boycott (or shall I say people who call and claim they are boycotting), it happens with advertisers on the other side as well. It's the nature of the beast.

Where did Leon get his accounting information?
I heard that if he'd apologized, he could have stayed.
I don't think AAR has much of a chance around these here parts.

My ride home hasn't been the same. I love Randi she had really grown on me and I usually flipped back and forth from AAR(via xm) to 680 to hear Leon.
I was happy to get to meet him face to face and shake his hand when 680 did the Premire of the movie "Crash".
He also provided me a place where my opinion was appreciated and considered. I actually called in several times over the past few months.
Now only with a Pet show on Saturday they might as well move 680 back to that closet it used to be in during the "JUICE" days.

In the mid-80's (pre Juice) when 680 was WKDJ and programmed by Herb Kneeland, they sounded great. I was the one who literally pulled the plug on WKDJ the day Viacom took control. I actually apologized to Herb some time later. Whatever happened to him, anyway?
