Leslie?

TL&J did a bit this morning where the entire extended morning staff (on-air and interns) received the results of a herpes test that was taken Friday. Jimmy Baron said in the set up that 44% of the staff (4 of 9) tested positive (not a big deal, they tested for both oral and "the other kind"). Mid-way through, Leslie stated that her sample "didn't come back from the lab". When they were done, it turned out that 3 of the 8 tested positive.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out who the 4th is...looks like someone is throwing a little weight around there. If you're going to do 'outragous' bits, you'd better be prepared to follow through...

Is this a personal concern for you?

For the love of God.

THIS is why that morning show should (and will) be blown up. The well is dry.

Now THIS is quality radio!!!
sigh.......

Respectfully, do you have any idea if I heard it or not?
And regardless, this is what mainstream radio has sunk to?
You're entitled to your opinion, as am I. 99X has been slowly tanking for a long time now and bits like this aren't going to save it.

OK, I'll bite. Did you listen to it before you made your comment?

Feel free to lie, it's the internet, anyone can say anthing with no accountability. But the thing is, you and I both know you didn't. You're a one of those people who loves to have opinions about things you're too lazy to inform yourself about.

Re: This morning's bit takes the fake cake

Today maybe the lamest bit ever on the 99X. For all the grief they have given Fat Kid for faking audio this one takes the cake. I missed the very beginning but Jimmy was talking about how while driving around last night he decided to call Donche during the third quarter of the Hawks game to see how it was going. Apparently he received two tickets from the station or Jimmy. So this was supposed to be a real phone call between Jimmy and donche. As they play the call their is absolutely no change in Jimmy's audio so clearly not a taped phone call. The point of the call was Donche was not at the game and scalped the free tickets. Then Jimmy tells Donche that someone else wants to talk to him and a female gets on the "phone" not sure who she was(Jimmy's wife) but she says she is upset he did not use the tickets because she really wanted to go to the game last night, I mean tonight. Yes she actually said she wanted to go to the game last night despite the fact that this supposed call was during the third quarter of the game. Toucher then quickly blew off the bit and moved on. I expect more out of a radio personality pulling in $315k a year.

You know what JimV... I have no qualms saying I didn't hear the bit and had no desire to link to it to even listen to it. I've been in radio more years than you've probably been alive (30+) and have listened to 99X since it was Power 99. I know a sinking ship when I hear one and 99X was on the decline when Barnes decided to leave it. The accountability SHOULD be with the so-called "talent" and GMs who are running out of any ideas of how to deliver a quality product. Why do you think radio listenership has dropped so dramatically over the past decade? People are tired of the mindless, 12 year old toilet humor (except for the mindless 12 year olds) and it's reflected in 99X's ratings. Now that you've made yourself feel better by insulting me without knowing the first thing about me, I hope you feel better about yourself. Feel free to spout anything you wish back at me, but I'm done with this thread.

I've probably written more public criticism about 99X than anyone. There's a been a lot to criticize. That being said, everytime time I've taken exception with something, I've always listened to it--usually several times.

I'm sorry if you're hurt by my words, but I suspect that the people whose work you're criticizing, without having even heard it, probably put a lot of effort to their work and have families whom they support with that work. I would suggest that yours is hardly a moral highground.

On a final note, if you believe that Steve Barnes "decided to leave" then you need to re-examine the source of your information. I think he "decided" to leave because Mark Renier and Leslie Fram "decided" to stop paying him and "decided" that they would call security if he "decided" to return.

Just because you're old and out of touch - doesn't mean you can be the alnighty judge on what is funny, and who is talented. Things change my friend, and that's why shows like STEVE & VICKI don't work anymore. You don't have to like it or listen - but over 30 years in the business doesn't mean you know radio TODAY!

Thank god someone knows what they are saying - and knows THE TRUTH. By all means if you find BARNES talented - go listen to DAVE in the morning.

Wasn't it JimV who suggested that Moby was receiving WEEKLY ratings from Arbitron? If not, I'm sorry...just an observation.

No, that was "1980sRadio".

AHH YES! Thank you! Sorry, JimV. Didn't mean to associate you with that topic.

Wow, can you feel the love?
Let's see... I've been around radio for 30+ years so that automatically makes me "old and out of touch". That's so sad. Boy, I sure hope they don't say the same thing about you, my young talented friend, when you're as "old" as I am.
Next, I'm an "almighty judge"??? (I'm assuming you meant alMighty and not alNighty, although I've pulled more than my fair share of those. But that's a given because I'm so "old"). I think I merely voiced my opinion that a bit on herpes isn't the type of radio shtick that's going to go into the radio hall of fame as one of the truly great pieces of ingenuity, nor is it helping 99X's sagging ratings. But I guess us old geezers just ain't allowed to voice our opinions, ESPECIALLY if it conflicts with yours, right? (Excuse me while I go find my wheelchair so I can roll myself out to pasture). And since my ancient memory is going so bad, please remind me where in my post I said anything about Steve and Vicki. I'm sure I must have, if you said it, you young stud, you, but by cracky I just can't remember it. And quite honestly, your last line about not knowing anything about radio because I have 3 decades in the business is a cheap, angry shot. I'm sure you're much more the expert than I am. After all, it's common knowledge we all get stupider as we get older (so watch out!) so excuse me while I go put new batteries in my hearing aid, tune into my .mp3 player, and edit digital audio in either Adobe Audition, Cakewalk Sonar 3 or SoundForge.... I just can't decide which one. They're all so confusing to an old dimwit like me.
