LI Radio wins the shore tonight

BLI, Party, WALK, K-Joy B103 all coming in crystal clear. Of course 105.3 is on my preset followed by 96.7 for my iPod/Zune transmitter lol.

It wasn't just FM (then again, why would it be?) I got WLNY 55 (West Islip) without breaking a sweat when I rescanned OTA HDTV in Freehold...

A pretty regular visitor in summer, with tropo. WLIW as well. I assume you are on an outdoor antenna, as I can't imagine OTA HDTV working in Freehold without one!

Expect this every week in the summer.
Last month I was able to pick up Party 105 every day for a week in NJ.

Nope - indoor amplified tabletop antenna (RCA brand.) Second floor, sitting fairly high (on a 6 foot shelf.) Pretty good tropo! (I did get WLIW that night, too.)

Generally, 2 and 4 (PSIP, of course) are reliable. 9HD/5SD less so, but still fairly okay - sometimes, I'll also get 5HD/9SD. A simple FM dipole gets me 7/11/13 (discovered in frustration during the Oscar cable blackout) better than the amplified rabbit-ears - go figure. Also, 47, 23/50/53 and 67/68 come in at times (not to mention 69 and its seven sub-channels...)

Honestly, Freehold's getting more readable signals than I ever expected, to the point where an outdoor antenna is actually a viable idea (I mean, it's gotta be better than amplified tabletop loop/rabbit-ears, right?)

Yes, almost any outdoor antenna will surpass an indoor one, although there are some exceptions. Being on the second floor definitely helps you!

I'm surprised you aren't getting any Philly stations there. Way back in the 70's, my aunt and uncle lived in Manalapan. With their roof antenna aimed on Empire, they had no problem getting a very viewable 3, 6, 10, and 12. Of course, those were the good ol' analog days!

If you do erect an outdoor antenna, I'd strongly recommend adding a rotor to the installation. For me, in Ocean County (Bayville), being able to reorient a degree or two sometimes makes the difference between signal and no signal. I run a preamp here, but I don't think you'd need one up there.
