License to cover filed for WNWF

OK, this one has be cornfuzzled.

Last I'd heard WNWF filed a license to cover for their move from 1120 to 1140 kHz in December 2016. But for some reason that is no longer listed on FCCdata.org. In its place is something titled "NONS" with no link to anything on the FCC website.

They filed a silent STA in October, claiming flood damage from Hurricane Irma. Which is odd, since Irma was three months prior. And Destin was not exactly in the path of anything really terrible from what I recall.

Now, there's a(nother?) license to cover filed for 1140 kHz, on December 19th.

So… is WNWF on the air, or off the air, or what?

Last I checked, WNWF was off the air. So is this owners station in Evergreen. They are both for sale via Griffin Media out of Atlanta.

WNWF Destin

I was the GM of WNWF and WFSH in 2001-2003. WNWF originally was WBZR. both operated with a combiner and fed a VERY SHORT tower.
Both were sold in 2003 to a Destin DUI lawyer who had dreams of his own talk radio network. WFSH went out of biz and off the air a few years later. WNWF was sold to John Ralls a Pensacola lawyer. Ralls (Andala Enterprises)also has WPNS in Evergreen, AL. Both are off the air with STA's.

Interesting note: both filed for translators...but the engineer that did the paperwork..flipped the lat-long so the app for Destin showed that frequency would be in Evergreen, and the app for Evergreen freq would be in Destin and that conflicted with an app for a translator for the Cumulus 1260 in Fort Walton Beach. Apparently neither translator app was approved. Just checked the FCC data and there are no translators, or apps for any in either city.

I know at some point the STAs won't be good enough and the FCC is going to cancel both those licenses. One year, I believe. And I'm 99% sure neither has been on in the last year at all.

The Destin-area translator app was dismissed, but the one for WPNS was granted: it's W295CY. It says Destin FL but it's in Evergreen. I don't think the FCC pays attention to cities of license for translators anymore.
