....LIKE A G6 CROSSING OVER TO.... URBAN?

I was about to present the question;
WHY ISN'T "LIKE A G6" CROSSING OVER TO URBAN?

Then, to avoid looking like a fool, I made sure to check and see if this was still the case.
I guess not. WVEE is playing it, so I guess the NEW question is;

DO YOU THINK THIS SONG WILL SOON BECOME FULLY ESTABLISHED IN THE "URBAN MUSIC WORLD"?

I hope so cause it's a cool song! Hmmmm, V103 is keeping eyes on those ratings I see. That should explain them playing G6. Q100 up in ratings, new Rhythmic in town and now tied V is tied for #1 spot. More to come!

WVEE ? They are trying to become a rhythmic? Sorry I don't think Like a G6 is Urban material

Nelly - Just a Dream should be picked up more than G6.

What I don't understand is how is "gimme dat" by Ciara urban material, and how was "hey ya" by Outkast urban material? And what about when WHTA played Britney Spears "I'm a slave for you" and WVEE was playing "genie in a bottle" by Christina Aguilera? Not that I'm complaining about it...

You guys have to remember that the current PD/MD of WVEE, Reggie Rouse, was a long time member of the behind-the-scenes staff of the "urban format nonconformist" WPGC 95.5 in DC. He apparently used his skill learned while at WPGC to program and keep its sister station V-103 musically relevant by adding tracks that might be heard more often on rhythmic stations. I'm not surprised by WVEE adds of rhythmic tracks over the years since like sister station, WPGC, they don't have FM sister station forcing them to skew their playlist either way. I actually enjoy hearing some rhythmic tracks on urbans because you never know what you might hear... :D

IMO, "Like A G6" fits more for CHR/rhythmic. Doesn't sound so urban IMO...

I'm a bit surprised to hear that "Just a Dream" hasn't picked up by Urban radio stations. That song fits on that category.

Isn't WHTA forcing them to skew more hip hop than they truly want to be at times?

Not really. WHTA hasn't had much of an effect on WVEE's spins of hip-hop since 2000 when they decided to incorporate the genre full time. It's more the other way around to be honest because WHTA has added more R&B to their playlist over the years because of WVEE.

WBLX mobile plays like a G6 during their mix show. I also heard Katy Perry's Teenage Dreams played during a mix! I almost fell out of my chair when I heard that. lol They also play Black eyed peas Imma Be and Nelly's just a dream in regular rotation.

..and boy did I hate that move!

I believe V103 played "Like a G6" now because they played it again today!

Not only that, but look at how Hot 97 WQHT used it aw well, in a mix;

WQHT PLAYS:
Fabolous - You Be Killin Em
03.12.2010 6:07pm
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Diddy & Dirty Money - Hurt (w/ Drake)
03.12.2010 6:13pm
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Major Lazer - Pon De Floor (w/ Vybz Kartel)
03.12.2010 6:23pm
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Edward Maya - Stereo Love (w/ Vika Jigulina)
03.12.2010 6:24pm
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Far East Movement - Like A G6 (w/ The Cataracs & Dec)
03.12.2010 6:27pm
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Eminem - No Love (w/ Lil Wayne)
03.12.2010 6:29pm
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Waka Flocka Flame - No Hands (w/ Roscoe Dash & Wale)
03.12.2010 6:32pm
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

I think more stations should jump on Far East Movement's second single, "rocketeer" - especially if those stations played Lupe Fiasco "superstar".

I don't think "Like A G6" should be played on Urban. Its a rhythmic hit more for a CHR. Also isn't their a 50 Cent remix out? Could see that one being played on Urban. Are Hot 97 NY and V 103 Atlanta are playing the remix or the orginal?

Hot 93.7 in Hartford, CT is playing the orginal version thats heard on CHR's. But that station is billed as a CHR/Rhythmic but leans more Urban.

WVEE

Ying Yang Twins - Shake (w/ Pitbull)
05.12.2010 1:41am
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Usher - OMG (w/ Will.I.Am)
05.12.2010 1:43am
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling
05.12.2010 1:46am
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

DJ Class - I'm The Ish (w/ Jermaine Dupri & Trey Songz)
05.12.2010 1:48am
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Snoop Dogg - Sensual Seduction
05.12.2010 1:50am
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Diddy - Last Night (w/ Keyshia Cole)
05.12.2010 1:52am
Buy from: iTunes | Amazon.com

Waka Flocka Flame - O Let's Do It (w/ Cap)
05.12.2010 1:55a

Exactly something WQHT would do as well at times.

WZMX Hot 93.7 is an urban that just plays some rhythmic tracks like the old WPGC, and so is WMBX in West Palm Beach.

Oh yeah, I realize that. WPGC did the same until it lost its long time PD/OM Jay Stevens to Radio One then the station officially became an "urban" under CBS corporate management calling the shots. The mode for WZMX and WMBX was mirrored after this station. It works for them in 2 ways, advertisement billing and the ability to pull white and Hispanic listeners.
