Like Majic your Gone !

And blowing out all of the personalities that have made you a success for years is going to help.......how?

Instead of sounding like an R&B powerhouse befitting a major market, Majic is going to sound like a small market, bird-fed amateur. What a shame. What idiot thought that this was a good idea anyway?

Very dumb. Olivia Fox and Alvin John Waples are the best in the business. They won't be out of work for long!

SMH, Radio One has proven once again they are the among the worst ran companies in radio. You actually was giving WHUR come decent competition yet you terminate your entire local on-air staff although the ratings increased in May. Poor Olivia Fox, whom has been laid off 3 times in the past decade. I'll prayer for her and her family along with the rest of the laid-off staffers. I guess WKYS is the most important one of the DC cluster, although they have been battling WPGC in the neck-in-neck battle be #1 amongst 18-34. **kanye shrug**

Basically, they've pulled a WCBS-FM "Jack" move without actually changing their name...

I would like to know whose idea it was to spell the word "magic" with a J.

This station used to be a non urban very soft a/c station and the "Majic" logo was used way back then.

This is really rotten news for the station's airstaff and listeners, although personally I haven't even remotely considered tuning in to that frequency since WHFS vacated it way back in 1983 !!

Except no one really cares. The Jack change in NYC also involved a huge change in music, not just elimination of DJs.

Olivia Fox will be releasing an official statement about her being laidoff this Friday 6-25-2010 at 12 noon,@ www.oliviafox.com.

I'll make a note of that come tomorrow because I hate how she's always been thrown under the bus all the time although her shows are usually leading or in the top 2 in target demos...They did it to her in Tampa and then WBTP slipped in the mornings...

All they did is open the door for Olivia to go to PGC when her non compete is up. She would be just the shot in the air they need to take down KYS, again and for good. Dumb and unnecessary move that they will soon regret.

That is very true because she would be the shot in the arm WPGC needs along some tweaking with their music rotation. WPGC would definitely take down WKYS with Olivia Foxx on board while WHUR could easily take down rest of the Radio One DC cluster with these recent dumb moves. I guess the market manager wants to see their DC cluster go back to where it was 5 years ago...

Its almost as smart as flipping Y100 to Phillys 8th Urban format. Maybe they're trying to grow up to be CBS.

Not entirely. CBS has displayed a lot more discernment than Radio One when it comes to programming their major market urban stations. In Atlanta, CBS' heritage urban station, WVEE "V-103", has nearly calculated and fended off every move that the entire Radio One Atlanta cluster has made against them. Radio One is just cheap as hell and poorly managed, thus they wind up losing when there are ample opportunities to be quite competitive.

Same Radio One move was done in Charlotte at former Q92.7, now www.my927charlotte.com and didn't work at all. When they did this in Charlotte, the stations name was changed but the format stayed Urban AC. Now, they've added jocks back to to the rotation.

Boo of the week to the jerk at Majic! The station's gonna go downhill! :'(

According to the Taylor on Radio-Info newsletter, Majic's rating went up after they cut back on the DJ chatter. So obviously they thought cutting out ALL the chatter would rocket the station to #1.

I'm sorry, I'm not an urban format fan or listener, but it is one of my top 3 formats that need need need good jocks to make a station sound good. This is a boneheaded move.

In the quest to make themselves (radio) less like your mp3 player, they're… making themselves more like your mp3 player. Only with commercials. Yuck.

I remember when that happened back in 2008. Radio One's Q92.7 had some major talent that was very recognized in the Charlotte market prior to that stunt. They know how to just show loyal employees that brings them major numbers and revenue that they are worthless...that's another reason why I still called Radio NoOne since they like to operate glorified jukeboxes in some markets.

6/28 - DCRTV gets confirmation that Radio One's Majic 102.3, WMMJ, is hiring a new airstaff for a relaunch of the urban adult contemporary station. Over the weekend, we told you that Radio One had placed a "help wanted" ad for three on-air personalities. Last week, the station fired its entire local airstaff, keeping the syndicated Tom Joyner in mornings. Still no announced time frame for the debut of the new airstaff. The new program director, Jammillah Muhammad, is a "dynamic and experienced leader who has a clear vision how to put Majic back on top with refined urban AC playlist and talent," we're told. "Staff is super excited about her ability to increase the ratings with WMMJ and (gospel) WPRS on her shoulders".....

Funny, but weren't they "on top" when they fired all of their staff? I guess being the number one music station did not buy them any time. Management must be hell bent on bringing down WTOP News, which is almost always number 1. Good luck doing that with a 3K station that doesn't go very far outside the beltway.
