Likelihood of The View cancellation?

Too many chat shows these days. Many have failed; Jeff Probst being replaced by Queen Latifah, replaced by Meredith Viera on KPRC-TV. The trashier stuff Maury, Jerry, Steve, et al. are on the "little 3" UHF stations (MyNet, FOX, and The CW) daytimes. It seems everyone is having a chat show, but most have failed within the past few years.

TPIR and Let's Make a Deal are the only network game shows on currently. NBC definitely needs a second daytime show besides Days; a third would be better! ABC is trying to revamp The View and The Chew. O&O KTRK kicked Rachel Ray from 1PM to 12:37 AM for Tyra Banks' FABLife last week. Hopefully KPRC-TV might pick up Rachel Ray for its 12 Noon slot!

Oddly enough, KTRK just picked up Jeopardy! last week too. It was the last O&O not to have carried it. Maybe they might pick up Wheel! also from KHOU.
 
Shows in all genres have been coming and going, many in fairly short order, pretty much since the dawn of the medium. Tastes change, and when the audience decides a given show, or genre, has outstayed its welcome, there are changes. There's a reason we don't have a dozen (or more) soaps on the air; ditto the same number of game shows. And while it is far from my taste, the Mary/Jerry/Steve et al shows stick around because they get the viewers they need to be a tidy little money maker. Sooner or later they'll fade away. It may just be later instead of sooner.

NBC is doing quite fine with the Today Show's added hours filling two of the network's daytime hours. They don't need another now; if that time should come, they'll act accordingly.
 
The Jerry Springer Show and Maury Povich Show/Maury have been on since 1991? That's incredible.
 
The question as to if a station might cancel the program, that lies in contractual obligations and simply put, means no they won't because it might end up costing you dearly in the pocket. The show would have to take action against a station breaking their contract because they promised the market to their advertisers.

An advertiser can easily drop a program by simply saying they do not want spots to air at a certain spot. Many times those spots are saved for later or run at different times. In the event of a program sponsor (or spots sold specifically for the show that are to clear in all the markets where there is an affiliate), the client holds all the cards, contract or not. Force the client to do something they don't want to do and you'll never get in the door to sell them again. Let them cancel and maybe 3 months from now they're back.

Then again, controversy usually spells better ratings. People watch what they love and what they hate to get more dirt on them.

Will this spell the end of The View? Likely not. As long as they are making money, they'll stay put. Losing a couple off clients that need to be replaced, if only temporarily, is the everyday life of the sales department where their motto should be expect the unexpected.

So which of the co-hosts won't survive the entire season? A reminder that Candace Cameron Bure is filming TV show Fuller House and will join the group in the Winter.
 
This thread started one year and 3 months ago. It will probably still be going in 2025 when they actually DO cancel The View. And Barbara Walters will probably appear on the last show...when she's 96. Just sayin...

I would classify those as entertainment (lately taking the WWE track). Sure ain't no debate!

"Entertainment" for masochists perhaps, but that's the best I'd say for the squalid GOP roadshow. Everett Dirksen, Dick Nixon, Earl Warren, and Ronald Reagan must be spinning in their graves.
 
So much for disagreeing without being disagreeable. Last night's debate was a morass of bad manners.
 
Whoopi Goldberg Threatens to Bolt From ‘The View’

Whoopi Goldberg may be ready to disappear from “The View.”

The outspoken Oscar winner has informed friends she’s fed up with ABC’s morning chatfest and wants to bail from the panel, where she has held forth on topics weighty and trivial since 2007.

“Whoopi has told those close to her she will exit the show,” said one daytime TV veteran, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Whether she really means it or could be persuaded to stay remains to be seen. Goldberg, 60, is in talks with ABC about extending her contract, which is up at the end of this season. Making noise about leaving is a time-honored tactic used to increase bargaining leverage.

The View Cuts Co-Host Michelle Collins

And another one bites the dust at The View.

Co-host Michelle Collins has been fired from the morning talker, our sister site Variety reports.

Collins went through a trial run on the program before becoming a permanent co-host last fall for Season 19. However, starting in January, her presence was reduced to one or two appearances a week. She is expected to stay with the show through the end of the summer.

i'm surprised that The View has not yet be canceled in the 2 years since this thread was started. and don't be surprise if ABC refuses to kill this show, i wouldn't be surprise if ABC blows up "Live with Kelly" and move Kelly Ripa to The View. by the way, it's just my opinion, as i don't work for ABC or the Walt Disney Company or any other broadcast company in either TV or Radio.

Wow. ABC doesn't directly own Live. It's a syndicated show. The View is produced by ABC News. Kelly is the centerpiece of Live. The View is an ensemble show. These are two very different shows, not interchangeable. I would bet Rippa's show makes more money.
 
Live with Kelly is a syndicated show distributed by Disney-ABC Domestic Television. It is produced at WABC-TV in New York. It does air on a lot of ABC affiliates. In my home state of Mississippi, it airs on ABC affiliates WLOX 13 in Biloxi, WDAM 2 in Hattiesburg, WTOK in Meridian & WAPT in Jackson. It airs on NBC affiliates Columbus/Tupelo WTVA/WKDH.
