Lisle and Hahn Exit 99.5 KISS???

Re: Lisle and Hahn Exit 99.5 KISS???

What if they did flip 99.5 to top 40 and 1067 to the "new rock" format?? I can see that as a possibility too.

Re: Lisle and Hahn Exit 99.5 KISS???

It is a sad event, but there is always a time when things have to change. L & H were great about 15 - 20 years ago. Now its time for them to leave and nothing or no one will ever be able to replace them. I used to listen to their morning show daily from 2006 - 2009, only because there was nothing else to listen to, (the only choices were 99.5 KISS or that biased commie crap on NPR). Every show sounded like the one before it and the one after it, only the dates changed. Same topics, same stories, same idiotic legal age juvenile callers, same handful of worn out tunes, the same stuff over and over and over week after week. Maybe their listener's short term memory syndrome was what kept that boring show limping along. Sometimes you could sense the half hearted forced enthusiasm in their voices or scripted responses. Their 15 minutes of fame was over about 10 years ago. Besides, that station lost its heart, soul and brain when Joe Anthony left. Since then its never been the same and never will be. 99.5 KISS had it day in the sun, just like the old 102.7 KTFM and KEXL.

That is what they said about KISS-FM when it changed from Hard Rock to 60s Oldies in the mid eighty. The new owners back then said they weren't making enough money with the Rock format.

That lasted maybe a year at the most and 99.5 changed back to a Hard Rock format again.

Did Joe Anthony hire them?

From San Antonio Business Journal:

Radio isn’t what it used to be.

The connection between broadcasters and listeners is hardly recognizable anymore.

That said, Cox officials hope they can breathe new life into a radio station that has lost some momentum.

The last major event held by KISS is Halloween Masked Ball

Nothing posted for Halloween night.

IMHO I think KISS could be saved however changes would have to be made. Either way, good luck to them.

I'm curious to see what come out of all of this. Clearly, Cox is looking at the bigger picture versus saving a dying Rock station.

I am curious as well. You may be right.

Re: Lisle and Hahn Exit 99.5 KISS???

What are you people smoking in SA? KISS is NOT going to go top 40 because there are already two top 40 stations and a "hip hop" station that leans top 40. Cox will probably bring in some young guy talk show to cater to younger demos since L&H's show is a bit aged. They might go great on 106.7 with a classic rock format but it sounds like KISS is going to do some overhaul with the rock format to get in some fresher music with an alternative lean. But top 40? Really? Cox failed miserably with Z106.7 in the early 2000s.

Yeah, but that's a long time ago.

As for another top 40, I really don't think that'll happen. But just the same thing happened with the launch of Party 97.7 months ago. We had three top 40 stations and we got another.

Re: Lisle and Hahn Exit 99.5 KISS???

hey everyone, I just signed up here. I was looking for info on the firing of lisle and hahn, and found the board. I read that 99.5 plan on bringing in The Billy Madison Show from Tulsa. anyone heard this?

Re: Lisle and Hahn Exit 99.5 KISS???

Party was just Univision's tactic to take numbers from KXXM and KTFM just like they did with Rock 97.7 to take out then-number 1 KISS (who shot themselves in the foot anyways and are suffering big time). It's not sticking around. Don't see the need for a third top 40 when KBBT already has a rhythmic-heavy top 40 lean anyways. Cox would do better if they would cut out all the classic rock that's already on X106.7 and add more classic and modern alternative to their playlist or at least do some sort of flashback session and pull out some tunes from the 90s and 00s they haven't played in forever. It's possible to revive KISS but Cox is NOT going to change it to top 40, that would be a bullet in the other foot.

Any guesses as to what the playlist might consist of?
I really don't see how Billy Madison will have a warm reception with the current mix of new and old tracks. L&H appealed to wide age demographics because of how long their show lasted. I have a hard time imagining how the older L&H crowd will embrace the new show.

As far as the music goes, I still wouldn't completely rule out a possible total flip. Cox isn't giving any hint to a flip, but major radio groups rarely do. At minimum with a younger morning show, I think KISS will have a stronger emphasis on newer tracks. If active rock isn't providing, which it doesn't seem to as much as it used to, perhaps they will dig into alternative.

Cox still has X106.7, and perhaps some tweaking there will allow the older crowd to default there, and allow KISS to lure in a younger crowd.
