Lite FM goes Country

In markets where there are no oldies stations AND the Classic Hits stations lean rock-heavy, the soft A/C format is still viable (WYXB/Indianapolis).

Bobby Bones was an easy guess. He's very good.....but Nancy and Co. have little to fear because of their street presence.

Even though they were down to a 4.8 in the latest PPM, they are right with Rewind 94.9 which scored a 5 share. WRRM has been AC for over 30 years. I'd say Cumulus is happy with that.
 
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! That loud "clunk" sound you just heard was Cox Corporate opening their vault to bury this new pea-shooter with promotional dollars. 94.5 is one of the worst FM signals in the Dayton area while K99's is the very best. Combine that with CC's boring as hell Premium Choice programming, B94.5's lack of connections for concert promotions and tickets, K99's well researched programming and local air staff including 20+year veteran Nancy Wilson in morning drive with Frye Guy, K99's extremely loyal advertisers......Oh wait, this is a stunt, right? Next Monday 94.5 will debut their awesome "All Lost Dog Announcement" format! God I feel sorry for Kim Faris....good luck babe, we still love ya'!
 
Anyone think 103.9 should've been the station to go instead of Lite 94.5?

How does the 103.9 signal compare overall to the 94.5 signal? 103.9's TX is pretty damn close to downtown, and at least on paper, their signal in places like Springfield looks a bit stronger than 94.5's.

Have you seen the 25-54 numbers for WFEZ/Miami, WDUV/Tampa, or WJPT/Ft. Myers ... Soft AC is far from dead. AC not delivering on its brand anymore is.

Another Hillbilly station for us all to hear in a market already over-ran by Country stations!

It would have been a smart move for them to switch WXEG instead of WLQT.... But oh well, Clear Channel

will do what Clear Channel wants to do! Kudos CC for totally screwing up the dial in the Dayton market!

Let's not forget Jacor's attempt at country on 106.5 also as "Buckeye Country" many years ago :)
 
Country on 103.9 was tried in the 90s as "103.9 The River"/WRVF. They blew it up in August 1995 to go Alternative as 103.9 The Edge. This'll make CC's fourth attempt at Country, two of those on 106.5.

Country on 106.5 also took place in the late 90s/early 200s as WBKI Buckeye Country when it was still owned by Jacor.

Lite FM should have remained on 99.9's much better signal when the "Channel" format was swapped from 94.5...but we all know why CC wanted to once again compete with Cox.

Kim Faris has experience with a country format at the former WJAI...so she still has an on-air job...she will be all right.

As for the Christmas music it would seem logical that it would now air on 107.7.

Clear Channel didn't own WRVF 103.9 when it was country. Jacor got 103.9 and most of their other Dayton stations from American Radio Systems in '98 when they swapped WDAF, KYYS, KUDL and KMXV in Kansas City for ARS's Dayton properties. Clear Channel, of course, picked those stations up about a year later when they bought Jacor. I don't remember who had 103.9 when it was country, but it seems like ARS flipped it to "The Edge" upon acquiring it.

The owner before Jacor was Stoner Broadcasting I believe.
 
Stoner merged with Atlantic and Pyramid in '94 or '95 to become American Radio Systems. The heads of Atlantic and Pyramid became CEO and CFO, and Tom Stoner chaired the executive committee. Stoner owned WMMX (and WDAO at one time). Not sure if Stoner had 103.9 or not, but that's certainly possible.
 
103.9 The River, WRVF was owned by Alan Gray under the company name "Next Gen Broadcasting", he sold it to American Radio Systems right after he switched it to 103.9 The Edge (under the consulting company of Jacob's media, who owned the right to the name). When A.R.S. bought it they had to switch names or pay a huge amount of money to keep using the name. There was an "X" in the call letters (WXEG) so they change it to "The X @ 1039". There was no major staff change except PD Mike Stern left with Alan Gray to go to Las Vegas and Jeff Steven was promoted to PD.

Original staff was...Sandy & Nikki in the mornings, BC in the middays, Jeff Stevens in the afternoons, and a rotating bunch of jocks in 7 to midnight and over-nights.

The name "The Edge" was used until New Year's Day 1998, when the station became "The X @ 103.9". Allen Rantz was the original afternoon jock. Jeff did the 1-3PM shift. Ryan, Chad, Joe Winner, Sheila, and John The New Guy were a few others. Joe Winner is now at CHR B103.9 in Florida. April did overnights for quite some time until she left for Z-93 in 2000 and was replaced by former WING-FM overnight host Jenna. Scott Mallory did middays & later moved to afternoons & moved to mornings in 2000. Vinnie also did afternoons. Jeff was PD from 1995-98, Mike Thomas followed him, and Steve Kramer was PD until they did cuts. After Nikki left mornings, she was replaced by Todd, and after Sandy left, she was replaced by Shaun Vincent, which happened in 1996-97 sometime. A guy named Scooby was a morning show stunt guy during the Sandy years. Also at some point, they went to a tracked night guy from 7-11PM whose name escapes me at the moment. Loveline aired from 11PM-1AM for several years also.

Actually Alans613, you are incorrect on the EDGE line up. Alan Rantz did overnights before he was promoted to Afternoons and Music Director. Jeff Stevens did 3 to 7 originally before he was promoted to PD, when Mike Stern (the original PD left for Las Vegas). Then Jeff split the middays with BC who was of from 10am til 1, then Jeff 1 to 3. A guy named Jim did 7 to Midnight.

Much of my timeline is correct, but it came later after the original folks left. My timeline started around 1996 or so. Jeff Stevens is a great guy & was there at the beginning, so he'd know more than I would. I didn't know Rantz did overnights at the start. I was told the first song on The Edge was "Right Here, Right Now" by Jesus Jones. Jeff did almost leave for Z-93 to do nights in September 1995 but he decided to stay at The Edge once they named him Interim PD. Z-93 ended up hiring the train wreck known as Vedder, who IMHO was the worst jock in Z's 23 year history. He was followed by Mojo, who was just as bad.
 
Well go up I-75 K 100 has a 50,000 watt signal and 107.7 The Wolf has only 5,200 watt signal which both station have a country format in Toledo, 107.7 seem's to hold up just fine in the rating's with a 3.5 right at the moment!
107.7 The Wolf has never really put a massive dent into K100's rating's but still 107.7 does pretty well in Toledo!
I think B 94.5 will do just fine plus B 94.5 has better signal coverage in Dayton then 107.7 The Wolf has in Toledo!
