Local affiliates of satellite formats

I was so happy to hear Christmas music on a Saturday afternoon. And Casey Hayes on the phone with listeners giving away prizes. Then, even before Dave could ask Alvin if he was ready, the station did a station identification and then the theme music for the local college basketball team. I finally heard The Chipmunks this morning. ::)

I forgot to say this while my Dial Global station was all-Christmas. The final hour of the local morning show, hosted by the owner, always starts with news and "Nothing but the Best" by Sinatra (that may not be the song's name, because I can't find it doing a search). During Christmas, the one time I was listening when he would have played that, it was some AC garbage. ::) But the show always ends with "Mr. Lucky" by Henry Mancini, and it's interesting that depite it being all-Christmas, the station had that song anyway.

I was distressed to hear an (live, not on the radio) event described as a "Rockin' New Year's Eve" which featured the same music you'll hear on the station, according to the station owner who does the commercials for the event. Exactly what ISN'T "rockin'" if this station is? Has he listened to his satellite provider's music lately?

I heard the original "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" on the local morning show of the Dial Global station.

On the other hand, there was a day when I heard "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" on the local morning show of the Pointless Classics affiliate. And then there was the song that made me change stations: "Time of My Life" from "Dirty Dancing." I haven't heard Senseless Classics play that one, but it wouldn't surprise me.

On the local morning show of my Dial Global affiliate, I have heard "Material Girl" by Madonna ??? and "All Through the Night" by Cyndi Lauper . That second one needs to be disposed of by men in space suits and buried deep in a properly constructed disposal site so as to never hurt anyone again.

And these were played by the station owner, who starts the 7:00 and 8:00 hours (once news is over, that is) with a Sinatra song and also plays the likes of "Friendly Persuasion" by Pat Boone. Though he aslo plays James Brown ...
