Local Fox stations distancing themselves from Fox news

A lot of Fox stations, even some Fox O&Os distance themselves from FNC, but are there any Fox stations that try tie themselves to Fox news, particularly in conservative markets?

Well maybe this thread is a rerun, but it's an interesting topic. Living as I do in the liberal Bay Area, I wouldn't know the answers to the question.

What I'd be interested in knowing is to what extent the Fox O&O stations (KTTV, etc.) embrace or distance themselves from Fox News. The LA metro is no longer a conservative area, so I doubt KTTV's news programming reflects the opinions typically aired on Fox News.

Any connection between the Fox News Channel and local Fox affiliates is tenuous at best.
Aside from JIP-ping Fox News coverage of a Presidential Address, or that Fox News Sunday
talking head show, there does not seem to be any.

Locally the connection between the Fox affiliate and the NBC affiliate is much
stronger due to their local news sharing arrangement.

KTTV news is nothing but TMZ garbage and how bad the Lakers suck.

The FOX O&O in Phoenix seems to tie in far more with FOX entertainment (ie, stories about American Idol, etc.) than with FOX News. They will use FOX News resources for national stories, but I wouldn't consider their news a local version of the cable product. One reason may be that FOX 10 has a decades-long heritage as a local news station dating back to its days as the CBS affilliate (pre-1995). Many of their lead talents have been with the station for 20 or more years.

However, they do use the "FOX" graphics package which, IMHO, detract from the excellent talent that they have. It's just hard to watch at times -- even the most senior anchors get confused at times with the graphics.

...and that's just Good Day L.A. ;D

If Fox News (Channel) is considered conservative, then KTTV is practically the polar oppposite, and I suspect it's the same among some of the other Fox O&Os.

The Fox O&O stations all have a very close tie to the Fox News Channel. The head of the station group reports to Roger Ailes.. the head honcho at Fox News Channel.

KHON is a very strange bird when it comes to Fox affiliates and news. I don't think they have a 9pm newscast, 19 years after they switched to Fox!

They have some type of news that airs immediately after Fox primetime. For a while on youtube, there were videos floating around of Joe Moore commenting on episodes of "24" during their live tease.

The Fox O&O I work at uses "News Channel" (as we refer to it in-hours) content sparingly, especially when it comes to political stories (specifically Carl Carmeron and Jim Angle fronted packages) - Those are the one that typically have a slant to them. Fox NewsEdge (affiliate service) reporters (Craig Boswell, Jennifer Davis who also occasionally appear on the network) tend to keep it MOR. The rest of their national correspondents (Casey Stegall, Maryanne Rafferty) also tend to keep their reporting MOR.

In Seattle, (liberal), "Fox" is downplayed, as the affiliate is better known as Q13. And they do well, partly because they offer the only 10pm news not affiliated with another network, and they carry the surprising Seahawks most games.

???
Who owns WNYO Buffalo? Why is Fox 29 (WUTV BUFFALO) encouraging their viewers to
go to "MYTV Buffalo" to watch an encore presentation of Buffalo's "2 on your side" news @ 10PM? ???
"2 on your side" News is news from WGRZ, which is owned by NBC.
There's Never a word of encouragement to watch Fox news channel for any reason.
(although Fox 29 DOES air Fox news channel when major National news is active.)

WNYO is owned by Sinclair, therefore part of a duopoly with Fox 29.

Sinclair owns both WNYO and WUTV. WGRZ is a Gannett station. (it's a NBC affiliate, but NBC does not own the station)

Sinclair has contracted with Gannett to provide a newscast to WNYO. Here in Nashville it's quite common to see a promo for a program on one Sinclair station broadcast on a different Sinclair station, and I'm sure the situation is no different in Buffalo.

My Fox affiliate has a 10:30 newscast called Fox News Edge. I haven't seen it lately but it was hosted by a pair of morning DJs, and edgy in its presentation. The gorgeous blonde has been promoted to the conventional 10:00 newscast.

News Edge is a brand at certain Fox stations, but it's also the name of the network's affiliate news service, much like CBS Newspath, ABC's NewsOne, or NBC News Channel.

In re WNYO: The owners of WNYO decided a long time ago that running local news was not beneficial when half the target audience is north of the border, and that's been the wisdom since.

KHON has been my favorite station when visiting Hawaii for years. Their main anchor, Joe Moore, has been a stable presence for many years. He harkens back to the authoritative newscaster of years past. And KHON doesn't have the Fox "in-your-face" graphics...

But HNN (Hawaii News Now) started at 9pm newscast in the past couple of years.
