Local Fox stations distancing themselves from Fox news

KHON is a very strange bird when it comes to Fox affiliates and news. I don't think they have a 9pm newscast, 19 years after they switched to Fox!

KHON has been my favorite station when visiting Hawaii for years. Their main anchor, Joe Moore, has been a stable presence for many years. He harkens back to the authoritative newscaster of years past. And KHON doesn't have the Fox "in-your-face" graphics...

But HNN (Hawaii News Now) started at 9pm newscast in the past couple of years.

Joe Moore is still there. That's great. I remember him as an anchor from my last visit to Hawaii, which I think was in 1985.

I recall that he (and possibly the anchors on the other stations as well) wore a suit and tie on the early news, but a colorful open neck Hawaiian shirt on the late news. Do they still do that?

I believe that the KHON anchors are formal Monday through Thursday. In the past, they celebrated "Aloha Friday" on their 5pm newscast (not anchored by Moore) with Aloha attire. Honestly, I don't remember seeing Aloha attire this time, but perhaps someone from Hawaii can clarify.

In Seattle, (liberal), "Fox" is downplayed, as the affiliate is better known as Q13. And they do well, partly because they offer the only 10pm news not affiliated with another network, and they carry the surprising Seahawks most games.

KPCQ might have been calling themselves "Q13" for the better part of 3 decades, but since the late 90s they have made the FOX logo quite apart of their branding. "Q13 FOX", "Q13 FOX News" seems to be their branding nowadays from what I've seen. They are still quite distance from FNC but their ties to the FBC has become more prominent in the past 15 years.

That's one thing I enjoy about KHON-TV, they don't care what FBC thinks. They do like WSVN, and avoid the "FOX" branding altogether.
