Local radio is dying in Macedonia

Have there ever been any talk stations there? What sports does the sports station talk about?
In most of Europe, there are three sports that are talked about: Soccer, soccer and soccer.

The worst one to stream used to be Radio Aleksandar Makedonski but I see they've changed and that's good. The worst one on FM doesn't stream but I will attempt to record an aircheck with ID in the coming days for the forum.

Haha, spot on!

The sports radio station actually covers every sport by an equal amount on their station. This station is one of the few live and local stations left in this country. The audio processing could be a lot better but hey, at least the programming's ok!

Tell us a bit about who owns and who can own a station there. I used to own stations in Ecuador (10 AMs and 5 FMs in the 60's) and have worked with stations in places like Argentina, Chile, Perú. Colombia, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and even Pakistan.

The radio stations are owned by natural persons, we don't have big media corporations like America has iHeartMedia for example. Most of these stations are either started as a family business or started by journalists and local DJs. You need a permit to broadcast and you have to buy a frequency on the FM band. In the past, there used to be pirate radio stations but back then the regulations were a lot more lax and the authorities didn't really care. Now, the authorities are a lot stricter and you can't just open a pirate radio station. You'll be caught almost immediately. The people who own these local stations are usually elderly or middle aged people that aren't that tech savvy and do not have the budget to improve their production. The radio station is just their side hustle because it isn't profitable.
