For those show say local radio is dead - or corporate ownership is bad - please
explain two great examples last week of local radio stations (all Cox in this example)
reacting to signficant events.
Thursday - Michael Jackson dies and WAPE went into all-MJ mode with live talk between
DJ's and listeners...
It was live, local, and compelling!
The CC competitor - KISS FM - was voicetracked and no one cared to come in to update it.
Friday - Severe weather during rush hour - and WOKV goes live with tornado warnings, calls from listeners who can SEE the actual funnel,
their own staff in the field reporting on the waterspout approaching downtown - and an ALL-COX simulcast!
it was live, local, and compelling!
Didn't get a chance to hear the rest of the market- was too compelled by the WOKV coverage.
