CBS had a beef with a since-departed Pirates official who badmouthed KDKA on the way out the door. I don't think that would be an impediment to doing business again.

I'd have to agree. Such petty disagreements rarely get in the way if two major companies feel there's an overall deal that could benefit both.

I fully expect CBS to walk in whenever the CC contract is up and offer to air the Pirate games on both
KDKA AM and FM.

Honestly, I'll be surprised if they don't.

C.

Why would CBS need to air the Pirates on both KDKA and KDKA-FM? They only need to be heard on 93.7 The Fan leave news on KDKA.

Also isn't the 93.7 signal better then 104.7 in the market?

Because a 50,000-watt AM station is something Clear Channel can't offer them. Additionally, it would make the
Pirate fans in Florida happy. ;D

Regardless of whether CBS would put the Pirates on AM and/or FM, neither will happen for at least another year, unless the Pirates and Clear Channel want to end their deal early.

I guess it could happen, but I just don't see what the incentive is for either side. The Pirates aren't especially interested in being on AM and they want lots of ancillary programming, which FM could provide. Doubt that AM could or would. The only people listening on AM are either very old or out of market, and they're not buying tickets.

can't heat KD down there anymore (you never really could south of Gainesville anyway). 1010 in Jacksonville is now 50kw day/30kw nights, and there's a 50kw 1010 in Tampa also.

KD always had interference from WBZ,but there was nothing like driving the turnpike and hearing the "Gunner' and "no money you'll be riskin when you buy from Joe Ziskind"

Which supports the contention that the only things KDKA has going for it in 2010 are long-distant memories.

The Pirates won't go back to KD since the night-time signal is so bad even in parts of Alleg. county. This will not improve until WBZ shuts of its IBOC system at night. Of course, KD is giving WINS alot of problems with its IBOC spilling over on to 1010.

Why would the Pirates even care about having their games carried on an AM radio station that covers a large area of the country? It's not like being on a radio station that baseball fans who live in Arkansas can listen to is going to increase ticket sales to PNC Park. They aren't going to sell more Pirate jerseys or other merchandise just because people in distant cities can listen to their games at night on AM radio, not when the team sucks.

If the Pirates want their games to be heard across the nation, they can stream them on the internet.

All MLB games are already streamed. Do some research.

If I gave a damn about listening to baseball, I would.

$15 a year, the "year" beginning on March 1. MLB's been streaming games for years. Unlike MLB.TV, there are no blackouts in home markets.

My Uncle Murray worked for Joe Ziskind. Murray bought a Caddie to be like Joe.

You mean people have to pay to listen to paint dry?

I doubt that.

By the way, Talk dude, aren't most talk shows on AM?

Not the ones I listen to.

Could we see 93.7 The Fan try to get the contract for the Pirates? ... Just recently CBS Radio won the contract back to the St. Louis Cards on KMOX.

CBS is also going to try and retain Orioles radio rights in Baltimore as former flagship WBAL will come calling...

And I am sure they would place them on 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore not the AM sports station ESPN 1300.

The Pirates would be willing to listen to an offer from The Fan. They don't think they are getting the kind of support from CC they were promised and are surrounded by programming that does them no good.

That said the bottom line is all that talks on Federal Street.
