Has Lois Melkonian "moved" to Houston?
I may be all alone with this, but I have a hunkin' sneach that Lois Melkonian has NOT relocated herself to Houston. I suspect she still lives in Denver, and her voice is the only part of her that has moved to Houston and KTRH.
An announcer's actual physical location hasn't been an important factor in radio for a long time. People can do entire shows from anywhere. We hear it all the time. With the size and scope of the Clear Channel Evil Empire, one CC news department or newscaster can do news for any number of other CC stations.
Lois Melkonian is not a spring chicken. She's been in the business at least 20 years, she's married with three teenage sons, so she has roots in Denver. Even though KOA and the Denver papers make it sound like she's pulled up stakes and moved to Houston, I don't think she has.
I formed that opinion this morning when I listened to her on KTRH for the first time. Matt Patrick's voice had the clear and crisp sound of a live voice when he tossed it to her for the news, but her voice had that distinct sound of a "canned" VT.
I think she still lives in Denver. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The floor is open.....
