Look What They Did! WHUM in Columbus

Okay, when the Quinns owned WKLU who should have been fired, who was the "cancer"???
They had at least three people (lowly jocks) trying to save the station while all the time the Quinn's plan was to sell.

There I was sitting on the pot. Just reading this thread on my laptop. Suddenly, I busted a gut. Almost fell off the stool. Nearly dropped my computer too.
Bruce Quinn’s hand picked jocks are all still there. Jethro Tull, The Dead, and classic rock as well.
So, I was wondering what we are trying to save? Oh, I know. It must be that Brownsburg High School
Basketball or that festival broadcast from the park. No wait! It’s THE BROWNSBURG SWAP SHOP.
“HELLO INDIAIAPOLIS! ANYONE GOT TWENTY MILLION FOR A CROCK?”

Twas the night before the full moon
When a Redduck posted about 3 lowly jocks at KLU

I pondered the question who should of been fired?
Then snuggled under by blankets after my shift, it was time to retire

As I wait for the total eclipse of the moon last seen in 2004
I couldn't help wonder about the post the night before

Thought I'd have a glass of red wine
Then quickly check the posts on-line

Low & behold what did I find? The question I had the night before
the Dawg clarified it on radio-info.

It is oh so true what Ur-A-Dog posted while sitting on the pot.
KLU still had the same format & hand picked jocks.

The man with the laptop sitting on the pot gave me a visual like none before.
I swear I had to go to the throne while I laughed to the point I roared.

All that is missing now is music for your rhyme
Could be a hit straight from the behind.

20 MILLION FOR A CROCK
Ur-A-Dawg you really ROCK!!!!

Thanks and congratulations to Bruce and Mitzi Quinn for their role in saving Indiana University's
WIUX. Glad you got it on the air before it was lost. What you did is no secret in Bloomington.

Just wondering if this thread will break 5000 views?

Some broadcasters had to pay big money for IU to withdraw their petition. And now
they are angry with Bruce Quinn!!!! They blame him!!

where's the story - got a link? Thanks

Just read on another thread that Mitzi Quinn has had a heart attack and is not doing well! I too am sorry to see this. I know that Bruce and Mitzi were in the process of expanding WHUM into Seymour.

Indiana University and the FCC recently gave them a new license. Hope she gets well and they keep going!
There are those of us in corporate radio who do wish them well!

Wow!

What is the story on Bruce Quinn? How did he get the name radio pirate? I used to listen to his station back when it was oldies in the mid 1990s. Nice to see he is still on the air. I assume he used profits from WKLU to build his current station? I also seem to remember in the paper, a brother being quoted when they did articles on WKLU as like a manager of some sort? What happened to him? Is he involved in this adventure with Bruce?

I think IU gave them the Seymour license, they are building as thanks for WIUX.
Quinn did some FCC stuff for IU.

We hope Mitzi is doing better!

I hear that WHUM is now on the air in Seymour as well as Columbus. I was wondering why Bruce
Quinn was so silent as another 50 KW frequency left Indiana. Now we know, he was planning to
move into Seymour himself!!!!!

Bruce Quinn recently filed an application for a new FM station on 93.5 in Columbus. But, it's not the application that everyone expected him to file.

This is ridiculous, we don't need any WFIU repeaters in Columbus, WFIU comes in just fine in Columbus. It comes in fine in Scottsburg for gosh sakes.

I always thought the WFIU translator in Columbus was overkill. Apparently WFIU feels differently--and they feel strongly enough to invest some substantial money to build this if it's granted. The bright side is that it would not further fragment the already saturated Columbus radio market. In that respect, it might be a good fit. That said, they are one of many expected applicants...no guarantee that they will be the victor.

WHUM started this. There was a national news story about their up and coming power increase.
Now, Bruce appears to be quitting and giving the radio station to IU? Right? That's what I just read?

Of course, IU is a quality educational broadcaster. And agreed, they are a good fit for an educational
license. So, does anyone think Columbus needs more religious radio on educational channels? It's now
between IU and that choice.

I'll bet IU will be building a new radio station in Columbus. And, I'd like to know the WHUM story on this.
Why did WHUM give up?
