Looking for any HD Radio sales figures.

A more recent projection for HD Radio sales by the end of this year was made by iBiquity's Bob Struble on August 1st at MSN Money. It revealed some back-pedaling from last March's forecast of one million expected in sales:

"Bob Struble, the CEO of iBiquity Digital Corp., the company that makes the technology for HD Radio, estimates that tens of thousands of receivers have been sold so far. But with prices falling rapidly and HD broadcasts rolling out in more markets, Struble expects nearly half a million units to be sold by the end of the year."

That's still much more than David's "guess" of 100,000 tops this year. I tend to agree with David that his guess will be far more accurate than any forecasts from iBiquity.

DAVID WROTE: "I have not seen anyone with any reputation in the industry predict 1 million receivers this year. My guess would be around 100 thousand tops."

The March 22, 2006 edition of Detroit News states: "And while the number of HD radios in use today is in the tens of thousands, it is expected to grow to 1 million by the end of the year, according to iBiquity Digital."

Perhaps the folks at iBiquity don't have a "reputation" in the industry. :)

iBiquity is not in the radio industry. They are a supplier to us. As I said, nobody in the industry thinks there will be a million HD receivers by year end, as there are only a few tens of thousands in the channels right now and we are nearly in September.

David,

Spin, spin, spin...

iBiquity’s owners include industry leaders: ABC, Beasley, Bonneville, CBS Radio, Citadel, Clear Channel, Cox Radio, Cumulus, Emmis, Entercom, Gannett, Radio One, Regent, Saga, and Univision.
