Why do so many stations talk in the morning, as opposed to playing music?
It gets ratings...far more than playing music does.
I feel for you guys, I really do. But an "all music in the morning" station has failed every time. People say they want it, but give it to
them, and they don't listen.
Don't ask me why that is? I don't know. I just know heavy music stations always rate lower than the stations with personality talk.
You can play music...and do personality talk...but to be everyone's i-Pod in the morning doesn't work. Never has.
And that's why few try it.
Fly 92.9 in Dayton has stuck with all music in the morning with no personality for two plus years now. Mix 107.7 and 99.9 Lite FM mix music and personality. I like a little music and a little personality along with news and weather updates. What I hate is syndicated morning shows that talk the entire show and don't play music at all, i.e. Rover, Bubba The Love Sponge, Mancow, and Bob and Tom.
Kevin is right on the money here...all music doesn't work usually. I guess the best thing to do is if you're a diary keeper is to always listen to and support stations that play a lot of music in the morning. They're the people that rate stations with talk shows in the morning highly. However, with the PPM coming soon to Columbus, that could change. We'll see.
