Looks like WOGL-FM 98.1 is playing Christmas music

sunny 104.5 in the first year of christmas music took breaks and played a normal song or 2 then back to the christmas tunes
then the next year it was 24-7

WOGL's strategy even leaving the weekend shows is to protect their regular weekday listeners with 'classic' Christmas songs. The audience most likely to want all Christmas music is in their demographic. Rather than have those listeners tune to B or JBR or DAS-AM for the next month those listeners will probably stay - where else would they go except maybe Cruzin 92.1? If an OGL listener tunes to B on the weekend & keeps hearing all the versions by contemporary artists they will tune back to OGL for the 'classic' versions. So unlike B to pick up extra listeners, OGL is doing this to keep their own listeners tuned & happy.

Years later I still miss the varied selection & Christmas imaging of Sunny 104.5, still the best I've heard doing the format. It's still a Sunny Christmas on my ipod complete with the liners & jingles! (yes, radio geekdom at it's finest)

I think it was three years ago when 97.5 was going from Smooth Jazz to WNOU AC, Philadelphia had three FM Christmas stations: B101, WOGL and WNOU. And in the December ratings they finished 1, 2 and 3. That's even with B101 going above a 10 share.

That year CBS had all its Oldies/Classic Hits stations make the switch except its Dallas station, since CBS's AC station in Dallas also was all-holiday music. These days it's up to the individual CBS station. The CBS Oldies/Classic Hits station in Boston always flips. And WOGL is doing it this year. But I think the other CBS Oldies/Classic Hits stations, including WCBS-FM NYC, are keeping their regular format.

Was doing some work today where I could bring the portable, and listened mostly to KYW vis-a-vis the weather. KYW made a real big thing about WOGL being Phila's Christmas music station.

Maybe it was centered around the Cyber Monday fever, but it sounded virtually like a full commercial for a brand new station on the air.

The association could work. One station drives you out shopping with music, and the other reports the great upswing in the economy because of what you spent shopping in response to radio advertising's effectiveness. Sounds cozy.

I had on WOGL Christmas Music since the day they started playing it on my car Radio. But last Night when they Started the dance party I changed my Station to B101 and I am sure i'm not the only one and I am now going to keep B101 on my radio so YES they will have to be in 24/7 including Weekends or they will NOT win they lost me..

For me it's just the opposite. I noticed the all christmas format on thanksgiving night. If they hadn't run Bob Pantano's Show on saturday night, I was going to remove WOGL from my presets.

Not everyone that listens to oldies wants to hear xmas tunes 24/7 between thanksgiving and new years. I applaud them for keeping Bob on the air during the holidays.

Break in with updates? We're not talking the live remote at the Chick-Fil-A grand opening.

It was just done that way on WRNB a few fridays ago. They advertised a live broadcast from 9pm-2am, but played mixtapes from the studio. When they broke in for the first update, you could clearly hear different music in the background [a rap song at that!] . That bit of bait and switch cost them a listener, as I no longer trust them to deliver what they advertise.

B plays plenty of classic artists and versions of the songs. The contemporary versions don't get as much play.

WKXW is sprinkeling in Christmas Music too. Hear som on XTU.

As is Ben FM (plus one hour of Christmas music during the "Santa show" in the evening).

WOGL has done well in the past with Christmas music. The earlier they play it the better. I heard WKXW sprinkle in the Christmas music which is also a good thing.
