Loud Media aquires WGAP/WKVL

I think 104.7 in Loudon (WLOD’s FM translator is still on. It was a couple of days ago). It’s got a CP & needs to move when 104.9 goes to the Greenback COL too.
It in fact is. WKCE used to come in strong here at my house in Maryville until this week. It's so weak, I can't even get the RDS to come in on my car. They've definitely turned down the power.

One move has already happened. 105.9 has flipped to classic hits now broadcasting from Sevier County. 104.9 is running nonstop sweepers. "Something new is coming to 104.9 Monday morning."

Per the stunt loop, Frank Murphy moves to "Fun 105.9" Monday afternoon, apparently the current 104.9 morning show remains for whatever "Amazing" format launches on 104.9

My first reaction l when I read this was “wait, what?” I didn’t expect Lake FM to go away, but Loud Media always does the unexpected. It’s too bad it didn’t stick around to capitalize on 93.1’s change, but I suppose this was already in the works. I’m not sure what’s left to do on 104.9. Maybe soft AC? I won’t hold my breath on that one.

So 105.9 is on Bluff Mountain now? I really thought they were going to use that to simulcast WVLZ. And 105.1 is supposed to move as well? It’s hard keeping up with all their signals.

Hot AC or Jump returns. Those are my two guesses. Anna & Raven are on both of those formats. I'm assuming if the new 104.9 fires up, 105.1 will move to 93.7 that day. 100.9 is also supposed to move to 92.5 on Bluff Mountain.

I was actually thinking about Jump. I think you were the one who discovered that they own the domain for jump1049.com. But I’m not sure how many Blount County residents are going to be into that kind of format.

I looked at Anna & Raven’s affiliate list. They are on all kinds of formats, even country. I hope Loud doesn’t put their “K” classic country format on there. We have enough country stations already. I believe they do own the k1049.com domain though.

They tried Classic Country with Q 104.9. Considering how well Duke covers Blount County, I really hope they aren't considering that.

The Lake FM webpage is teasing something “Big” coming to 104.9. Maybe they keep & tweek the classic hits format as “Big 104.9”? The Big name is used quite a bit on classic hits outlets and adult hits outlets. There’s obviously a hole with Awesome flipping. So I’m thinking they might stay classic hits or adult hits & maybe tweek the format a bit newer than Lake’s previous incarnation (maybe more of an 80s/90s focus or 90s/2000’s as some stations have recently moved to).

The WKVL calls though make me wonder if the “K” isn’t going to play a significant part in the station’s name, whatever the format. (Perhaps “K104.9” or “104.9 K-Hits”?)

I doubt that based on the fact that they are running promos moving their audience to Fun 105.9 including their only local host Frank Murphy. The call letters could still come into play. 104.9 KVL could even work. Maybe Hot AC reaching into the 90's?

You must be psychic. I had been looking into registered domains and I actually came back here to post (before I saw your post) that I found 1049kvl.com registered the same day as fun1059.com.

Wait, what??? I didn't even look for that. That's so interesting. So Jump being out of the question now, unless this is a decoy, i'm going with Hot AC. I'll even say Top 40 as a possibility. I know that format isn't so hot right now, but it's Loud Media. They are full of surprises.

Seems like that would make sense. With Fun 105.9 doing ‘70s and ‘80s (and some ‘60s), that would leave room for 104.9 KVL to go with ‘90s and beyond.

I’m still surprised they didn’t use 105.9 to simulcast VLZ to the other side of the market. (adjacent frequency & it covers areas where they’re weak). Also a few months back when Loud’s stations were listed in the ratings, VLZ was actually pulling a 1.9 12+, which is better than I’d figured for that signal. So there’s obviously an audience interested in the format.

I feel like the older formats would do better in Sevier County than active rock would. Maybe i'm wrong. If anything, i'd love to see them be able to aquire one of the religious or talk translators on Sharps Ridge in the future to get a better downtown signal. The shuffle isn't over yet though. 93.7 and 92.5 are still to come. I wonder if WKCE's oldies format survives the restructure?

WKCE seems to be the cockroach that never dies so it will probably survive the move. I looked for possible 92.5 and 93.7 domains registered on the same day as the other two. I didn’t see any possibilities.

I’ve also been trying to think of what WSMM could be. Simon? Sam-FM? Both of those were Adult Hits formats in other markets. The last station to have those call letters was in Indiana. It was known as “The Stream” with a Classic Hits format.

Long shot idea: They go Classic Country and brand as “92.5 WSM”. Well, maybe not, but years ago there was a station where I used to live that was officially WLSS, but branded as “WLS” to appeal to former Chicago area residents. It didn’t work out too well though.

I wonder too on the 93.7 signal. 105.1’s reach is so awful it’s hardly worth mentioning. Is 93.7 at a different location or better height? If so, maybe they’ll use it for something instead of the Mid Century format. I could see them relaunching Jump if it’s a better signal too.
Idk, overall Loud seems like an odd company to me. Almost seems like someone with money just having fun & “playing radio”. None of these rimshots & translators are going to be big players. And also they seem to change everything up every few months on a whim. Plus they spend money on new imaging/sweepers/jingles each time too. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to have them in the market for the variety, and their stations do sound well produced. I just don’t see any financial value really other than having fun.
