Louisville ratings

No real surprises, just more of the same. I do find it interesting that WLUE and WQMF seem dormant at best.
Not sure of his name but I believe the same person programs both. Personally I find neither station all that compelling and not surprised by their poor performance. On the other hand, let's remember it's Clear Channel and the poor guy is probably overseeing 52 stations.

JJ Dulling is the PD for WLUE and WQMF... personally I'm glad to see WLUE flat... JJ is insane. They talent line up is horrible, they let Rebecca Lake go from nights who by far was one of the best talents in town... Rebecca should've been doing middays with Traci Taylor (vt'ing middays from Cincy) should be doing nights.

How long before WTFX flips?

It was a bad rock book for the whole market; :-\ every rock
station in the Louisville ratings went down (including WLRS
& WTFX).

WLUE-FM is still highly rated(4th or 5th) 25-54. This is another one
of those markets where Xmas music programming probably skewed
things big time the 2nd half of the book (based on November
and December monthlies). WXMA did better 25-54 than their
12+ might indicate. And, in the 18-34 WZKF beat WDJX.

WSFR is the station that's on the skids. Being 10th 25-54 might
be a good enough reason for them to finally go after WAMZ.

Move WPTI to the bigger 107.7, move WSFR to the smaller 103.9.

If I were CC I'd put La Preciosa on 93.1. I don't know if EMF would plunk down the cash for WTFX given the support the flea-powered Air1 signals get in Louisville.

Variety Hits

I've been watching the Variety Hits stations nationwide with great interest over the past year or so and came across the post about WLUE-FM ("Louie").

I have to say that if you're going to criticize WLUE, you should first look around the country at similar stations' performances.
You'd find that you have one of the top 3 or 4 Variety Hits stations in America. The Bonneville stations in Phoenix and St. Louis do really well- Jack in Nashville has it's moments but, by and large, WLUE has out-performed nearly every one of it's contemporaries. We have "Doug" in Detroit, which is OK but no great shakes. I hear "Jack" in Chicago quite often and it's a jukebox so far. "Charlie" in Portland sounds pretty good, though they had a big drop in the fall book.

I can't speak to the personalities involved, (though, you have to give them some credit for actually having jocks, since the "Jack" stations of the world do not) but it looks like they're a perennial Top 5 25-54 player, book after book. This is a format that's taken a lot of heat over the past couple of years, but stations like The Peak(Phoenix), Louie and The Arch (St Louis) are real success stories. "Jack" largely is not.

Oldies Cat, you have done your homework! Man I wish I had your knowledge. I love the morning jock on Louie, Jackson. I think he's great.

I honestly think CC will sell 93.1 instead of flipping it. But, it would be interesting if they put Movin on there!

If WPTI and WSFR switched spots, and WPTI actually put jocks on the air, do you think they could take more of WAMZ audience?

Clear Channel will never put MOViN on 93.1.. they'll never pay Alan Burns consultant fee... if anything they'll do the Clear Channel version "party".. They won't sell it... they'll just flip it.

If the fox is flipped i bet wlrs will become exactly like the fox is now but the fox still has one advantage wlrs doesn't have.Streaming.I wonder why the fox hasn't been doing that well.I say put she 93.1 back on the air and get there program drector then the ville would have 2 good alt stations wfpk and she 93.1( i wish) where as right now we don't have one alternative station to speak of.

SHE 931 there's a blast from the past... the station was canned too sooner, more marvelous work from the genius CC Matthews to kill SHE 931 and 989 the HAWK... SHE was a great station, and great staff!

radioville, you obviously don't work in Louisville Radio.. CC worked for WDJX and Jacor Broadcasting for several years. Then when Clear Channel and Jacor merged several Jacor people went into Clear Channel, including CC... CC had worked with Karen Rite (PD for WQSH "SHE") while she was working @ WDJX years earlier and they didn't get along. So, CC canned Karen and Jason Davis (another former WDJX employee) and swapped 989 and 931.. country went to 931 and 989 become a "mini-DJX"... Both stations blew up in his face.. and CC Matthews no longer works for Clear Channel or in Louisville radio.

you're right. I don't work in radio. But I wouldn't say 989 blew up in his face because "the mini DJX" has better ratings than DJX!

She 93.1 became the bull 93.1 and 98.9 became she 98.9 and then star 98.9 which was like the max is now and then dec of 2000 star 98.9 became clear channels kiss affiliate here kiss 98.9 and didn't really do all that well till hot 104 went away which in my opinion was not to bright a move for radio one.I don't think kiss would be doing all that well if hot 104 did not go away. There was a difference between B96 and hot 104. In my opinion djx will always be better because there jocks are in this city and not piped in from who knows where!!!Plus they are not as rhythmic as kiss but mainly the piped in jocks thing i don't like.

I must confess I don't really know a lot about the other stations you mention potentially switching, so I'm probably the wrong person to query. :)

CC Matthews is back on Louisville radio. He's doing ads for a local contractor on 105.9 The River.

Didn't he work there before?
