If WPTI and WSFR switched spots, and WPTI actually put jocks on the air, do you think they could take more of WAMZ audience?

WAMZ used to be a great station. Gator Glass & his top ten at 10 request countdown was good radio. Nowdays, much of station is turned into a voice tracked dump. Of course, that shouldn't be any great surprise...WHAS now has an automated voice giving the time between the pre-recorded news segments. How anyone in good conscience could let WAMZ and WHAS deteriorate to this degree is beyond my ability to comprehend. It's getting to the point where WAVG 1450 has more live shifts than WAMZ...and that ain't right.

Last ratings for Louisville I saw had WAMZ at #1 and WHAS at #2. I could be way off here, but my guess would be most stations in the U.S. would happily take their current ratings performances.

Point taken...just goes to show that quality radio and ratings don't always coincide as one would expect/hope. In the interest of the long term prospects of terrestrial radio, I do hope that not one listener decides to look elsewhere as a result of their penny pinching.

Yeah, Bob, but there's always something. What about "one listener deciding to look elsewhere" as a result of raunchy or racist humor? Or looking elsewhere because their music isn't on target? Or maybe political talk that doesn't fit the community?

The final decision on what's "quality programming" always lies with the listeners.

Unless an idiot from Clear Channel fires Coyote and derails the station, WAMZ will have continued success. The success of WHAS today actually goes back many years ago.

Managers like Hugh Barr, Jerry David Melloy, Denny Nugent and others built WHAS into the success it is today. The goal was to market and program the station so it would, at the time, appeal to younger demos while providing the service elements the station did so naturally. During the music years it was no surprise to hear Van Halen, Bon Jovi and the Mary Jane Girls along side of Motown and British Invasion artist. Promotions rivaled if not exceeded the other stations in the market. But most of all there was a dynamic within the consistency. Jingles and similar elements were constantly updated and it was rare a book promotion was ever repeated. Overall there was something “hip” in how the station was presented back then.

While old line MOR giants KMOX, WJR and even KDKA struggle to hold listeners, WHAS succeeds as the younger listeners they sought twenty and thirty years ago are now today's thirty-five plus numbers.

Appreciate that Jackson comment...May I say you have excellent taste.
